Featured in the Sunday Buffalo News (06/14/2009) was an article by News Staff Reporter Charity Vogel entitled "Focus on Poverty:  Staying Afloat," which analyzed statistics showing that women are still struggling, and  highlighted WNY Women's Fund's "Pathway to Progress," its collaboration with the UB Regional Institute, "completing an exhaustive - and groundbreaking - study of the status of women in the Buffalo Niagara region."  Read the entire article by clicking here

Project Highlight: Pathways to Progress
Pathways to ProgressA first step to making meaningful measurable differences in the status of women and girls in Western New York:

* Building a baseline of information on key issues
* Engaging women and girls
* Guiding investment and policy action"

The UB Regional Institute is the independent researcher and is supporting the project in-kind as well.  The Women's Fund is the lead underwriter, committing $45,000 to the project.  Other funders include the Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York.

An advisory committee of thought leaders with deep expertise in areas specific areas has been convened and will ensure that the voices of ALL women and girls in WNY are heard.

Special thanks also go to the Joy Family Foundation, Robert J. & Martha B. Fierle Foundation, the James H. Cummings Foundation, and the Patrick P. Lee Foundation.

Project Highlight: Structures in Science
Structures in Science  -- A collaborative initiative between the Buffalo Public Schools, the University at Buffalo and Buffalo Museum of Science, Structures in Science will provide a unique learning opportunity for middle school girls over the summer at the Charles R. Drew Science Magnet School. The school resides in the Science Museum, however, no additional science or math programming takes place during the school's academic year. This program will take place in the afternoon following the BPS Extended Learning Opportunity Program. More than 30 rising 7th and 8th grade girls will be given the opportunity to learn about science and math through curricula, hands-on activities, and student presentations. In addition to engaging girls in scientific inquiry, additional objectives of the program include exposing girls to career paths in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields, as well as showing them that science and math is fun.

Please feel free to contact us to find out more about our programs.
