Greetings!
Good Afternoon! Happy
Thanks......well I guess that ship has sailed, yep, the horse is out of the
barn. Trains already left the station, there's
no time left on the clock. It's the end
of the opera and the larger person has begun to....Anyway, I hope you had a great
holiday and extended weekend, and were able to get nice and rested up because the
days of eating leftovers and munching on pumpkin pie are over, it's December 1st
and the man in red is only 24 days away.
There are parties to attend, open houses to visit, parades to watch, and
last but not least, shopping to be done, so shake it off and get ready, here's
you're first holiday newsletter.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY
First, let's get you up to date on this month's events and
happenings:
This Thursday is Trivia Night, of course, and there will be
many special holiday edition prizes to be won, think "Regift", the first round
starts at 7:00.
Friday evening is the Annual Downtown Open House, which
coincidentally happens each year around this time. All of the DeLand merchants will be open late
and featuring some great specials, there will be reindeer and life size
gingerbread houses, talking snowmen and women will be your guides, and Leon
Redbone will be performing "Christmas Island"
dressed as an elf on the steps of the Historic Courthouse, some of which is
actually true, some...not so much.
Saturday is the 243rd Annual Christmas...oops!.....Annual
Holiday Parade, which begins around dark-thirty. Prior to that, though, is the Florida/Alabama
game which will determine who goes on to play for the National Championship,
which kicks off at 3:30. So, if I were
planning my day, and wanted to be certain to catch both of these events, what
would be the best way to go about it? I
can only come up with two possible scenarios, and one of them just doesn't
work. Stay home and watch the game, then
come downtown? No, the game won't be
over 'til at least 6:30-6:45, and the parade will have definitely started by
then. I'm guessing here, but it seems
the only way to really do both things, is to come to the Grape around
Three-ish, have a little Seafood Gumbo, which Bill has prepared, watch a little
football and be here to catch the whole parade...I just don't see any other
way. Anyway, the weather should be
perfect I hope you are able to make it down.
Sunday is the 16th Annual Rotary Christmas Auction,
which features hundreds of items up for sale, the proceeds of which go to
benefit many local charities. One of the
more sought after items this year will be the basket donated by The Elusive Grape. Well, not so much the basket itself, I mean
it's nice and all- as far as baskets go.... I guess. Although, being perfectly honest, I don't
have a lot of experience in judging baskets, I really can't say for certain if
this one is nice or not, it's kind of like the thread count in sheets, I just
don't have the....Sorry......It's more about what's in the basket that is going to
get people bidding. We're talking wine,
liquor, gourmet foods, and a $50 gift certificate to the Grape, all in total a
$750 value! The absolute perfect
Christmas present for yourself or for someone who will let you enjoy it with
them! It is currently under construction
and will be on display here at the Grape for the remainder of the week, you can
catch all the action in person at Stetson
University's Edmund's
Center or on Brighthouse Networks' Channel 194 from 3-9 pm.

THE NEXT BIG EVENT!
The Elusive Grape is the Angel Tree Sponsor for the 1st
Annual A Victorian Christmas: Dickens at
the Deland House, on December 12th and 13th from
11:00-5:00 each day. Tiny Tim will be
there playing "Tip Toe Through the Tulips" on his ukulele......no, sorry, wrong
Tiny Tim. No joke here, I think this
event will grow to be one of the best of the year, the entire Deland House on Michigan Ave. will
be decorated in Victorian holiday style, complete with Ye Olde Bake Shoppe,
wandering carolers, a Children's Corner with Father Christmas, a game park,
etc. Please mark it on your calendar as
a "don't miss".
Our Holiday Gift Basket assembly line is in full-swing
operation and ready for your order(s). All
of our baskets are fluff free and 100% usable, we're talking gourmet foods and
fantastic wines. In fact, we can even
make customized labels for you, contact us directly for more info, or stop by
in person.
