Greetings!
Whew.....Let me just catch my breath here for a sec..........okay,
much better. I have been so busy, just
running around doing this, doing that, it's nice to finally sit down and.......Ah
who am I kidding, you're not buying it.
So why not just cut to the chase and say, "sorry for not writing for so
long, I will try to be more diligent in the future...."
There, now that we have that out of the way, let us move
forward and onward and upward, or downward as it were. Please join me in the next box directly below
this one.....

TODAY'S WORD.......
The word for the day is Layer Cake, yes I know that
technically it is two words, but for the sake argument let's all just agree to
refer to it as one. Now, Layer Cake (one
word) is an adventure in wine producing by Jayson Woodbridge, owner/winemaker of
the super premium Hundred Acres winery in Napa. Mssr. Woodbridge, whom has been referred to
as "One of California's
(perhaps the world's) most flamboyant, talented, contrarian wine producers",
makes several wines from around the world under one label, which is....you
guessed it, Layer Cake. There is the
Shiraz from Australia, the Primitivo (or Zinfandel, as it is known in some
circles) from Italy, the Malbec from Argentina, the Cotes du Rhone from France,
and the Cabernet from Napa, all of which are true to their roots and reflect
what wines from those particular regions should taste like. I bring this to your attention because we
just happen to have a few of these gems in stock, the Shiraz, the Malbec, and the
Primitivo/Zinfandel, to be exact. In
true infomercial style, I'd like to ask how much you would expect to pay for
one of these beauties? A $100 a
bottle? Nope. $75 a bottle?
Wrong again. Certainly $25 a
bottle. No, you're all wrong! What would you say if I told you that you
could get each of these wines for only.......wait for it......it's right around the
corner.........the very low price of $16 a bottle!
You heard/read me correctly, these uber sumptuous, stellarly superb,
wonderfully wicked, wines are available to you for the awesomely low cost of
only $16, but wait, that's not all! If
you act today, or, you know.... stop by, we will have all of these wines
available for you to sample! And if
you're not able to make it today, no worries, we'll keep some samples on hand
for the rest of the week, or tomorrow and Saturday, as it were.

HE'S A GREAT ACTOR, AND LOOK AT THAT SHINE!
Don't forget to join us this evening for Trivia Thursday,
where tonight's special guest will be Telly Savalas, from the long running hit
show Kojak and the Mr. Clean bottles.
Tel, as his friends refer to him as, will be here signing lollipops and
giving free demonstrations on how to get the mats of hair off the bottom of a
mop without using your fingers.
Afterwards, there will be a Q & A session wherein.....um.....I think I
should be honest here for a second and tell you that Mr. Savalas won't actually
be here tonight, in fact he passed away in 1994. What I was attempting to do was trick you all
into coming down to the Grape, and once you got here, I was going to make up
some lame excuse, like, "Oh, he passed away in 1994, but since you're
here....." So please accept my apologies,
I will attempt to refrain from any further deception in the future, I hope to
see you this evening.

HEY, YOU GONNA USE THAT SONG?
Speaking of music....this Saturday is the 125th
Annual Deland Original Music Festival which began back in 2000. Over 120 different musicians will be set up
in over 20 different downtown venues, all performing covers of Anita Bryant
performing covers of other peoples songs.....there I go again....these talented
musicians from around the country will be performing original songs written by
them, or if not "by them" per se, than ones that were stolen from unsuspecting
musicians who happened to have passed out at the bar and left their scribbled
lyrics on a bar napkin that was easily....... Okay, one more time. This event is the largest Independent Music
festival in the Southeast, and it is a privilege to have such an array of
outstanding musicians performing here in our town. If you plan on attending, and find yourself in
need of refreshment, then you should by all means stop by and allow us to sate
your thirst. It is at this juncture of
the story that I would like to mention that Tim Bratcher, of Married to Suzie
Bratcher fame, the very same person who once performed here at the Grape, will
be performing during the aforementioned festival at Dublin Station at 3:00 pm.

WHERE DID THE TIME GO?
Let us flash forward together for a moment.....It's December
21st, a Monday, 7:00pm and there is a dull throbbing sensation
behind your left eye, not exactly painful, but just one sneeze away from being excruciating. There are only four days left and you haven't
a clue of what to get. It seemed like
there was so much time, this year was going to be different from ones past, all
the shopping was going to be done early, no stress, blah, blah, blah. Throb, throb, throb. Now come back with me to that nice cool
Thursday in November. You're sitting
there reading the ever-entertaining newsletter from that fantastic wine shop in
DeLand, when you come across the part of it that talks about planning ahead for
Christmas, er...the Holiday. It says, "You
should start planning ahead for Christmas, er..the Holiday
season now. Let us make you what every
person in your life truly wants, a basket with great little snacks and
wonderful wine in it! We can personalize
it to meet even the most demanding person's wishes. Like, perhaps you know someone that likes
Riesling, but only ones that come in red bottles, we can do it! Or maybe there's a certain someone who enjoys
red wines and chocolate, but only from Napa
and Godiva, respectfully. We can do
it. Or maybe you know someone who needs
help disposing of a body.....um, we can't really help there, but you get the
idea. I know you can't tell by reading
this (or maybe you can- which would be really weird), but my back has inexplicably
just decided to stop functioning the way the good lord meant it to, and I feel
as though I should probably lay on a flat surface or something, so I apologize
for the abrupt ending to this weeks newsletter, more soon..........P.S: Don't forget that next weekend is the Fall
Festival of the Arts and we'll be open all day Saturday and Sunday til
4:00.........OOOOOF!
