Egyptian American Society Newsletter   Vol. 1  Issue  11 -  Oct 21, 2009

CALL FOR NOMINATION

The Egyptian American Society will start recognizing Egyptian Americans for their achievements that include services to the community as well as prominence in one's field.

The EAS Outstanding Achievement Award is an annual award that is bestowed on an Egyptian American who has had considerable and significant contributions in such fields as the arts, sciences, business, literature, education or in service to the community. Its purpose is to recognize, with admiration and pride, the contributions of Egyptian Americans.

The selection process requires careful consideration by the Selection Committee of the EAS. The committee is composed of four Egyptian American representatives, whose names will be announced in our next newsletter.

Most important, the process requires participation by the EAS membership in making nominations for this prestigious award. Therefore, we urge you to nominate worthy individuals for the award.

Please send your nominations by email to eascafe@gmail.com no later than Friday, November 6, 2009. Make sure to include a bio of the nominee. The Selection Committee will keep the names of the nominees and the entire process, in all of its aspects, in strict confidence.

Thank you.

A Shining Example of Community Service
From Hana and Neda Athanasios

Neda  Hana

Sisters Hana (12) and Neda (9) Athanasios decided to partake in a charity project which is intended to help three organizations they feel very strongly about.

They are offering their services during the weekends to anyone in their community - they live in Alamo - who needs assistance they are able to provide - for example, helping wash a car or tidy up a closet, help with folding laundry, reading to or babysitting a younger child, helping in the kitchen or yard, walking the dog ... etc.
Please remember, they are only 9 and 12 so mom has to approve the "work".

During the summer, Hana and Neda washed cars, cleaned garages, bird-sat a parakeet (that was a fun job), bathed a dog, picked fruits from fruit trees, made lunches (Hana loves to cook), took out their neighbors' garbage while they were on vacation, fed squirrels (that was interesting) and helped clean up yards.

Instead of paying them for these services, Hana and Neda would like you to donate to either: St. Jude Hospital , Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Make a Wish Foundation.

You can give them the checks (payable to either organization). Mom and Dad promised to match the funds they collect. They will present the three organizations with the checks that they collected at a later time this year.
If you wish to "hire" them, please contact their mom at hanaandnedasummercharity@gmail.com
