The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar'ia method for determining the beginning of lunar months including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal. On the basis of this method the dates of Ramadan and Eid ul-Fitr for the year 1430 AH are established as follows:
1st day of Ramadan will be on Saturday, August 22, 2009 1st day of Shawwal will be on Sunday, September 20, 2009 Our sincere wishes to Muslims around the world for a blessed month of Ramadan, may God keep people of all faiths on the right path, and accept their fasting and prayers.

National Arab American Heritage Month Committee Meeting - Tuesday August 18, 2009 - 6:30PM
Many of you may not know that a National Arab American Heritage Month has been approved by National Archives in 2008.
This year will be the first year this event is celebrated in the Bay Area and California during the month of October 2009.
The Egyptian American Society, along with all major Arab American organizations, are proud to support this historic event and put all their efforts and resources behind it.
Heads of Arab American groups, business and community leaders as well as those who are interested in making a difference for our community are invited for an evening of discussion at San Francisco City Hall.
