Pacific Hospital PDA Announces:

$150,000 Grant for King County Project Access in 2011

SEATTLE, January 25, 2011 -- The Pacific Hospital Preservation & Development Authority (PHPDA) has announced a grant for $150,000 awarded to King County Project Access (KCPA) for 2011.

The grant funds key personnel and specific outcomes in the number of patients who receive specialty appointments.

"This grant will enable King County Project Access to continue to increase the number of volunteer specialty providers and the number of patients seen," said Rosemary Aragon, the PHPDA Executive Director.

The PHPDA was an original funder of KCPA in 2006 with a grant of $50,000. It has funded this program annually for the last six years. The PHPDA has provided $715,000 in grants over that time.

Due to the support of the PHPDA and others, King County Project Access was able to serve 2,750 patients in 2010, more than an 86 percent increase over 2009 and more than 170 percent increase since the program began. Today, more than 500 specialty physicians volunteer with King County Project Access to provider care for uninsured and underinsured patients.

In 2010, the PHPDA conducted a series of interviews with local thought leaders about the areas of unmet need in our community and the best ways to leverage our limited grant dollars. Local leaders encouraged the PHPDA to retain its focus on specialty care access for the uninsured and underinsured. This grant is a continuation of that support.
