Featured Artist of the Month, Beate Amler
Beate Amler was born in Heidelberg, Germany. Her primary medium is acrylic. She has a distinctive style of painting; at a glance precise and clear, however looking deeper, her paintings are filled with emotion and passion. Each viewer connects to the painting in a personal way by discovering different images. Beate graduated with a master's degree in graphic design from the College for Graphic Design in Mannheim, Germany and worked for an advertising firm for ten years. After moving to the US with her husband almost 15 years ago, Beate began developing her skills in painting. Her paintings have since appeared in juried art shows in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California and private collectors in the US, Germany, Canada and New Zealand own her paintings. Beate served as the curator for the Community Gallery in Redwood City on behalf of the Peninsula Arts Council for two years. She is currently showing her artwork in a group show at the Milton Marks Conference Center Gallery in SF until January 2011 and in the Coastal Arts League Museum & Gallery in Half Moon Bay until October 3, 2010. |
October is National Arts and Humanities Month
Held every October, National Arts and Humanities Month is a coast-to-coast collective celebration of culture in America. Coordinated by the organization, Americans for the Arts, it is the largest annual celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation.
The California Arts Council collaborates in this effort and offers an annual California Arts Day Celebration held on Friday, October 1. The theme this year is pARTicipate.
2010 marks the sixth year that the Peninsula Arts Council has participated in this visibility campaign. This year PAC is requesting mayoral proclamations from City Councils in San Mateo County declaring October Arts and Humanities Month on a local level.
Through these combined national, state and local visibility efforts, the campaign hopes to demonstrate the intrinsic and economic value, strength, and beauty of the arts and generate media coverage regarding the vital role the arts play in our lives.
Arts Organizations! Post your October performances, events, gallery openings, etc on the Americans for the Arts Site and to the California Arts Council Site. Together we can put San Mateo County Arts on the map!

NEW Venue! Center for Performing Arts in Menlo Park Driving by the new Center for Performing Arts at Menlo-Atherton High School, my first impression was that L.A. architects Hodgetts + Fung were pulling us into the future with its geometrically angled glass reminiscent of crinkled-up cellophane. I was immediately drawn to the imposing, modern facade of the building and wanted to find out more.
