Artist of the Month, Leigh Toldi Leigh is a Hillsborough-based artist whose art studio is located at 1870 Art Center in Belmont. Active in many local arts organizations, Leigh has contributed extensively to the arts education for children of Hillsborough and has supported the San Mateo High School Drama Department through her painting, photography, and book publishing knowledge. Last year her paintings and drawings involved a study of "traveling healthily through a state of chaos." This year's art is a celebration of the "a-hah!" that comes from that successful ride. Returning to her first love, India ink drawing, she has created in the past four months 900 hundred tiny drawings, each centering around the idea that we humans are amazing survivalists. "Not only do we know how to survive great upheaval, but we also know how to transcend the mundane through our instinctive propensities for grace, beauty, and creative thought." "900 Lives of Vision" Leigh's solo show will be installed at Avenue 25 Gallery, in San Mateo, Sept. 10- Nov. 5. The reception is Sept. 11, 2-4 pm. For more information on her art and philosophy or see Leigh's additional work along with many other local artists online at the Peninsula Arts Council Artist Registry.
