About the Peninsula Arts Council
The PAC:

Shriver and The Women's Conference partnered with The California Museum to
celebrate National Women's History Month with an extraordinary all-day free
event -- Day at The Museum.

RAFT- Resource Area for
Teaching
RAFT is a local non-profit organization that
provides educators with
the tools they need to engage their students in powerful hands-on learning
experiences. They offer a selection of innovative hands-on activities, educational resources and
inexpensive supplies (many donated by local businesses) to enrich pre K-12
education and community programs. RAFT also serves as a professional
organization for teachers, providing development workshops and the ongoing
support they need to excel in their day-to-day classroom endeavors. For more information or call 650-802-5505.

Peninsula Festival Catalogs Now Available! Entry Deadline May 15, 2010!
The Peninsula Festival (San Mateo County Fair) catalogs are out! New to the Fine Arts Department this year is: "The Best of Video Game Art and Animated Film Art Award"
Sponsored by the Peninsula Arts Council Awards Offered: Rosette, $100 and a free one-year membership to the PAC The Bay Area is home to some of the world's most talented and innovative artists producing artwork for the gaming and film animation fields. This award highlights the best of these genres and showcases them for the public to enjoy. Eligibility: Amateur and professional video game artists or movie production artists should submit their final stills, or graphic renderings in the form of two-dimensional framed and wired artwork, no larger than 18 x 24 and follow the general rules for all art entries. Profile: Michael Lederman
Artistic
Director of Coastal Repertory Theatre and PAC 2009 Diamond Award Winner-Arts Educator
In honor of March is Arts in
Education Month, the Peninsula Arts Council interviewed Michael Lederman,
it's 2009 Diamond Award Winner for Arts Educator.
Michael
Lederman, a.ka. "Bub" is the Artistic Director of Coastal Repertory
Theatre in Half Moon Bay. He is
also an actor, director, founder of the Coastal Theatre Conservatory, arts
educator and fundraiser extraordinaire. A theater lover from his earliest stage
experience in second grade, Lederman became a professional actor and made his
television debut at age 16 in an episode of "Charlie's Angels."
He says being in
theater as a kid was a good thing for him. Read more

"The Female Gaze: 2010" Award Winners
"The Female Gaze: 2010", celebrates women
artists' view of the world they live in. The artist reception, held on March 4,
2010, was hosted by the San Mateo County Arts
Commission, The Commission on the Status of Women of San Mateo and the
Peninsula Arts Council in honor of Women's History Month. In attendance were County Supervisor's
Carole Groom and Rose Jacobs-Gibson among many other community arts advocates. This
year's outstanding entries were juried by Catharine Clark, owner of Catharine
Clark Gallery in San Francisco. The
show will run through the end of April 2010 in the Caldwell Gallery and Community Gallery.

PAC Welcomes New Board Member!
Welcome Kristina Hofler, 5th grade teacher at Brewer Island Elementary School in Foster City, our newest PAC Board Member. Kristina is an advocate for arts education, a painter and printmaker, and an active arts volunteer. |
Peninsula Museum of Art Reference Library
The community has a remarkable resource for information on the visual arts. Peninsula Museum of Art has a library with more than 900 books and magazines available. Professional librarians and four students from Notre Dame de Namur University analyzed the collection, which was donated by local artists, and devised an index system for finding books. Special sections include Asian art, women artists, the business of art, and instruction books for studio artists. The Peninsula Museum of Art is located in Belmont's Twin Pines Park, 10 Twin Pines Lane, Belmont. Open 12 - 4 pm on Wed.- Fri. & 1 - 4 pm on Sun. |
Stand Up for Arts Education
Arts education programs are at risk in districts throughout the county. Our community must be ready to act to ensure hard-won arts programs do not get eliminated! To support timely, local advocacy, the San Mateo County Alliance for Arts Education is hosting a free event on March 25th that will provide tactical ideas and support for these efforts. Learn how to advocate for the importance of keeping the arts, basic to every child's education, in the schools during the upcoming budget cuts.
