Rima Abedi Sagherian

Homenetmen Regional Board and Glendale Ararat Chapter have lost a long time dedicated member, Rima Abedi-Sagherian. The untimely demise of our friend is not only an enormous loss to Abedi and Sagherian families but also is an irreplaceable loss to Homenetmen family who will miss a selfless member, beloved leader and an unwavering advocate of scouting life.

Rima served on Ararat Chapter Executive Board from 2005 to 2007. From there, she was elected to the Homenetmen Regional Board in 2008 and undertook the treasury responsibilities which she dispensed meticulously and diligently. Rima attended the 2010 inter-conference in Paris, France. In the October of the same year, she was re-elected to the Regional Board again and continued her duties as the treasurer, faithfully. Unfortunately, Rima was unable to complete her second term, bidding us farewell, leaving her important duties, unfinished.

She was a devoted member of our organization who cheerfully carried out the responsibilities entrusted to her, always an inspiring role model for our many volunteers. Her reassuring smile and diligent work will forever remain illuminated in the memories of all who knew her. She was a joyful, fun loving, and beloved friend.

Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Chapter Board, together with its officers, staff, and the entire membership wish to express their heartfelt condolences to the Abedi and Sagherian families, especially to Rima's mother, Mrs Margarid Abedi, her husband David and her son Christopher, and to the Homenetmen community at large.

Arenoush 5 Survival Camp

On the weekend of March 23 to 25, 2012, Arenoush (Girl Scouts) troop #5 attended a survival camp at the Trask Scout Reservation in Monrovia Canyon, CA. The troop had invested a long time in preparation, planning and organization of this unique camping experience. This proved to be extremely helpful as the girls spent quality time learning skills of survival, making fire, Morse code, handling emergencies and using nature's resources.

During camp the troop members and leaders bonded further as a cohesive troop and gained a deep sense of appreciation and respect for the wilderness.

On their last night at camp, the girls sang banagoom songs and performed their skits with the usual delight.

As it is our scouts' cherished camp  tradition, the camp fire was the wonderful close to this great trip.

Eagle Scouts

March 25, 2012 was another proud day for Homenetmen Glendale "Ararat" Chapter and Homenetmen family. On that day, Ararat Chapter's Scouting Division had its second Eagle Court of Honor.

After sharing their scouting life stories through a short slide show and going through the Eagle Charge and Challenge, the three boy scouts of Troop 154 and as it's known in Ararat: "Ari 4", Christapor Allahverdian, Sevada Barseghian and Christopher Sagherian were awarded their Eagle Scout Rank certificates and neckerchiefs by their Scoutmaster, Arto Kazarians.

The Eagle Scouts received commendation letters from President Barack Obama, and certificates of recognition from Senators Boxer and Feinstein. Congressman Adam Schiff's representative, presented the Eagle Scouts with flags of the United States, unique for having been flown over the United States Capitol building, and also awarded them certificates of recognition. They received certificates of commendation from Assemblyman Mike Gatto and Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich.

On behalf of Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Chapter and the leadership of Ari-4 troop, we congratulate Christapor Allahverdian, Sevada Barseghian and Christopher Sagherian for their accomplishments in scouting and earning of the Eagle Scout rank.
