2010 Annual Meeting and Elections

Homenetmen Glendale "Ararat" Chapter held its 12th Annual Representatives Meeting on Sunday, December 12, 2009 at the Ararat Center. This meeting highlights the review and evaluation of the Chapter and all division Boards' Annual Reports, the approval of the proposed budget for next year and the election of the Chapter's upcoming Executive Board of Directors.

Helik Issagholian, who will be serving for a second term as the president of the Board of Directors, said: The Homenetmen Ararat chapter has flourished and thrived for more than 30 years. We have grown from three young men to nearly 2000 members, moved from a budget of hundreds to millions and forged years-long partnerships throughout our community. We have achieved this success through the relevance of our mission and through the strength of our networks, but most importantly, through the energy and passion of our members.

I call upon that passion and dedication now, because the work before us is critical not just to Ararat, but to our community. Our success in the past was achieved through the inherent energy and dynamism of our members, and our success in the future depends on the same. In the upcoming year we will need to harness the talents and abilities of each of our members to promote more organized and high quality programs, involve parents and families in our activities, secure financial stability, and increase volunteerism. So I encourage us all to be serious as we move forward and strive to meet our goals. Those who have come before have brought us to this point; now it is upon us all to continue the legacy.

 2010 Volunteer Appreciation Day

As the year was coming to a close, on December 5th, the Ararat Board of Directors honored Chapter volunteers with a festive holiday brunch and celebration. In attendance were all those who tirelessly served the Chapter and its members throughout the year with commitment and dedication together with their families. This annual event is a clear demonstration of Ararat's strength by showcasing the extensive range of the projects that are planned and completed by its many different board members and volunteer parents and friends.

 Ararat & Azadamard Building Friendships

On December 18, the Scouting Division's Arenoush 5 troop had a joint activity with the Pasadena "Azadamard" Chapter scouts. This activity served to introduce and bring the scouts from the two Chapters together, before their upcoming joint winter camp this year which is planned for the weekend of January 28 through 30, 2011.

The ice skating event was one held by the Pasadena scouts and was open to all of the Western Region scouts, and so the troops were joined by scouts from other chapters, as well. The group topped 65 with members from various Chapters. Arenoush 5 attended with about 20 scouts. The troop met with the Pasadena scouts and played a couple of icebreaker games in order to get to know one another and then spent the rest of the evening ice skating.

It was some of the girls' first time ice skating and so adorable to see the young scouts clinging to their leaders or their best friends for support. As the scouts tested out their ice skates and got more used to the activity, the Ararat and Pasadena leaders whizzed around the ice rink, laughing and having a good time. The event was a perfect way to enjoy the Christmas spirit and did its job in setting a strong foundation for the upcoming joint camp where
Arenoush 5, along with three other troops from Ararat will be camping with scouts from Azadamard at the AYF camp.

Matching Funds Program

The Programs Division is planning to continue the "Corporate Volunteer Grants" and "Matching Funds" programs this year.

Most large corporations such as the banks, financial or insurance institutions, engineering companies, etc. have allocated funds for this purpose. If you or someone you know works in such a company, let us know and we will facilitate the application process. It is very easy to apply, there is no financial burden on the applicant and simply by being a volunteer or a friend of our Chapter, you can have these funds sent to your favorite organization: in this case, Homenetmen "Ararat" Chapter.

Throughout the year this program will be introduced in more detail during different meetings, however, if you are interested, either to apply or to be a part of the organizing committee contact one of the Programs Division's Board members.

Santa Visits Artsvik2

On December 18, the Scouting Division's Artsvik 2 troop held its Christmas activity. While many of our scouting troops hold Christmas events during this time of year, Artsvik 2's event was unique because the group of twenty -seven to nine year olds was surprised with a special visit from Santa and his helpers. Santa showed up with Mrs. Clause and Rudolph and was greeted with very loud and excited Christmas singing. Luckily, all the girls had made it on the "good list" and so everybody received a present as well. Santa had to leave quickly, and while the girls may have easily discovered Mrs. Clause and Rudolph's identities, Santa's still remains a mystery. Rumor has it, he was the real deal!
Martial Arts Belt Testing Ceremony

On December 23, the Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Chapter's Martial Art parents committee organized and conducted its Belt Testing Ceremony. The ceremony was followed by the group's Christmas party.

Dear Friends of Ararat,

The newly purchased North Campus facility enables the Chapter to serve an additional 500 youth in various athletic, scouting, and cultural activities.

However, the project is far from completion and requires the help of our friends to acheive its full potential. Let's take ownership by donating $10 per month to complete this enormous project and support Ararat in serving our community's youth.
