Arenoush Miavor Camp

On November 5, the Scouting Division's Arenoush Miavor went on its annual camping trip. Arenoush Miavor consists of five groups of girls between the ages of 11 and 21. The camp took place at Trask Scout Reservation where the girls spent their weekend singing, cooking, pioneering, hiking and sharing a great time with their friends.

The focus and highlight of the camp was to cover the requirements for Entrepreneurship Merit Badge. Throughout the weekend the girls were split into business groups where they created, planned, strategized, budgeted, and marketed their own businesses. The girls learned about the many facets of entrepreneurship; there were insightful lectures that made them think about what they want to do in the future and even lectures that introduced college level concepts. These lectures were conducted by current and old scouts that are experienced in various fields. On the last day of camp, there was a business fair where each group presented their created businesses to the Scoutmasters. The results were some brilliantly wacky creations and the completion of the badge requirements by all attendees!

The camp was a great success and the girls came home even close that before, especially the Brownies who had recently transferred into the Miavor. Arenoush Miavor Camp is about sisterly bonding and growing as an Arenoush with your fellow scouts and this camp did just that.

 D-League  Winter Season

Ararat D-League started in Jan 2009 with 100 participants and has grown consistently every season since. Our current Fall season has 270 participants. The Winter 2011 season will be our seventh season, and is anticipated to be our largest one yet. Much like every other season we will limit the participation to a level where we can provide the highest quality program possible, so register early.

Ararat D-League an alternative to the traditional year-round basketball program, provides a well organized and high quality youth basketball experience for boys and girls, ages 6 to14, irrespective of their experience, fitness level or membership status. D-League is a seasonal program offered three times a year. Each season lasts 10 to 14 weeks and includes weekly practice sessions and a minimum of 10 games. Winter Season Starts January 13 and will run through May 1, 2011.

In 2010 we also introduced our Junior NBA Program for boys and girls, ages 4 to 5.  Our goal is to provide a low-stress, non-competitive environment where kids can expect to be active and have a great time.

Junior NBA Winter Season Starts February 10 and will run through April 17, 2011.

We hope that players will exit our program with, not only a fun and educational basketball experience, but with newly acquired fitness and health habits that will remain with them for a life-time. Registrations are NOW open for Winter 2010 Season: Click here to register online.

 Violin and Piano Duo Recital

We are happy to invite all music lovers to enjoy a memorable evening of superb performances. Violin virtuoso Khachik Babayan will make his USA debut on January 31, 2011 in a concert accompanied by renowned pianist Serouj Kradjian.

Armenian violinist, Khachik Babayan was born in 1956, in a musical family in Tabriz, Iran. In 1972, he entered the Tehran Conservatory of Music. Persuant to winning the first place in the Iranian Violinists Competition, he was awarded a scholarship of musical studies in England and began his musical studies at The Royal Academy of Music in London in 1975. In 1979 He became an associate of The Royal Academy. Since the return to his homeland in 1980, Mr. Babayan has continued his career as soloist and concertmaster of Tehran Symphony Orchestra as well as The National Radio-Television Orchestra of Iran. In the recent years, Mr. Babayan has often appeared as a soloist with Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and The National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, under the baton of Maestro Loris Tjeknavorian. On numerous occasions, he has also collaborated with The Parisian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Meroujan Simonyan.

Armenian-Canadian Serouj Kradjian, who will accompany Khachik Babayan, has equally impressive credentials. He began his studies at the age of five, and by seven had won a National Competition for Young Musicians. At fourteen he earned a scholarship to study in Vienna, and later studied at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music. He continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, Germany, receiving the coveted Solo Performance degree in 2001. In the 2008/09 season Mr. Kradjian became the pianist of the Amici Chamber Ensemble in Toronto. Mr. Kradjian has appeared with the Vancouver and Edmonton Symphonies , Madrid Symphony, Göttingen Symphony, Russian National Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic and the Thailand Philharmonic. The Juno award winning pianist has been described as "a keyboard acrobat" of "crystal virtuosity", having "fiery temperament and elegant sound" with "a technique to burn."

On Saturday November 21 2009, Mr. Babayan accompanied by Mr. Serouj Kradjian, performed to an all sold-out audience in his Canada tribute concert at the Glenn Cloud Studio in Toronto. The January 30th, 2011 concert in Glendale, CA, co-sponsored by Homenetment Ararat Chapter will mark Mr. Babayna's debut concert in USA.

Montrose Christmas Parade

On December 4, our Scouting Division attended the Montrose Christmas Parade along with scouts from other Homenetmen chapters.

The Homenetmen Band and more than 60 scout members from Ararat, Azaramard and Shant Chapters marched at the parade.

This event is about coming out in numbers from every local organization and share the Holiday Spirit with others in the community. Despite the cold weather the Christmas spirit warmed everyone's heart, and for us, it started the happy anticipation of the Holiday season.

Dear Friends of Ararat,

The newly purchased North Campus facility enables the Chapter to serve an additional 500 youth in various athletic, scouting, and cultural activities.

However, the project is far from completion and requires the help of our friends to acheive its full potential. Let's take ownership by donating $10 per month to complete this enormous project and support Ararat in serving our community's youth.
