2010 AYF Basketball Camp
The 2010 Basketball Educational Camp was held during the weekend of September 24 to 26, at AYF camp site. The camp activities were diligently designed, carefully administered and successfully executed.
This weekend is usually packed with activities and this year was no exception. An Educational Seminar by Arick Gevorgian titled "LOVE IT, LIVE IT and FEEL IT" kept the campers interested and engaged while discussing Homenetmen family and history of Ararat Chapter for the last 32 years.
Chief among the goals of this particular camp are teaching the kids team work during their daily activities and creating long lasting friendships between young team members. This was achieved by conducting various individual and team competitions such as Ararat Fear Factor, Duck Contest, Round Ribbon, and Hetakhozakan. The campers entertained themselves by performing in a talent show "Ararat Got Talent", and a number of skit performances and of course singing and dancing around the campfire.
In another seminar Greg Gharib, a veteran member of Basketball Division, shared his story of 30 years of involvement with the Division. Greg Gharib encouraged the kids to wear the Ararat Blue with pride, be involved in Ararat, and always, always make healthy choices in life.
2010 Basketball Camp highlighted the leadership of Fred Babajanian as the head organizer, the commitment of our volunteer parents and coaches, and the dedication of our young counselors. Fulfilling the program's objectives, this weekend brought much joy and happiness to our young participants and indeed provided outstanding opportunities for learning and growth to our young counselors, on the way to become our future leaders.

New Addition to Ararat Martial Arts Program
We are glad to announce the addition of Sevak Ohanjanian to our team of coaches as Martial Arts Instructor.

Martial Arts is fun and beneficial to any child. It provides health, fitness, self-defense, self-cultivation (meditation), and mental discipline. It promotes character development and self-confidence. Ararat Martial Arts Program, in addition to teaching the sport, offers a place where kids can be independent, disciplined, make new friends and get to know their community.
Training and progress in sport of martial arts materializes only when practicing under supervision of a qualified instructor. Sevak Ohanjanian has a wealth of experience at the junior level and understands what it takes to be successful.
He started the sport when he was 14 years old. He has numerous black belt students with great portfolio of achievements in national tournaments. Enjoying a solid success, Sevak is black belt in Shotokan Karate and has a long resume of championships.
Our Vision in Ararat is to serve our community at large and our youth in particular by providing a safe environment and fun programs that enrich our members' lives and help them become better citizens of our community. We strongly believe that Sevak can be a great component of this vision. He is responsible, hardworking, and self motivated. He maintains a positive attitude, and is a great mentor and motivator.
