Rhythmic Gymnastics
We take great pride in our Rhythmic
Gymnastics program which has been offered at Ararat Chapter since September of 2002.
At the start of the rhythmic program, the General Athletics Division and Head
Coach, Ovsanna Mkhchian had a clear goal in mind. They envisioned a positive
environment, where by incorporating the strength and agility of gymnastics with
the grace of dance, young girls would be able to become inspired athletes, build
their confidence and remain healthy and fit. Since then, due to Ovsanna's drive
and dedication, along with Ararat's unfailing support, the team, Ararat
Rhythmics, has achieved great success.
Ararat Rhythmics' young athletes have
participated in many local and regional competitions including regional
championships of USA Gymnastics. Two of our girls, Natalie Keleshyan and Ella
Mokhtarians, advanced to compete in 2008 Junior Olympics competitions, in Columbus,
Ohio. The team is again, working hard and preparing for the upcoming
competitive season.
At Ararat Center, our girls have the
opportunity to train in this very unique sport which combines the athleticism
of gymnastics with the beauty and art of dance. Girls use five apparatus -
ball, hoop, rope, ribbon, and clubs - to perform athletic routines while moving
gracefully to the tune of music. Beginners' classes are now being offered for ages
four and up. New athletes are grouped in
regard with their level of strength and ability. This sport is guaranteed to
attract any little girls' interest and keep her a devoted athlete. Classes are held twice a week with coach Ovsanna Mkhchian and assistant coach Armina Petrossian.

which are comprised of five goals each.

Karimian, Teni Shahbazian, Edwin Babaian, Gayaneh Khechoomian, Arpy Kasparian, and
Elena Mirzaians received the Wood Badge neckerchief, woggle, beads, and
certificate during the ceremony.
At
the end of the ceremony, all scouts and guests who had completed Wood Badge
joined in to sing the famous Wood Badge "Back to Gilwell" song.

Glendale Downtown Dash
Glendale's third annual
Downtown Dash, a 5K run/walk, took place on Sunday, March 14. By
News-Press estimates, nearly 1,500 runners, walkers and stroller-pushers braved
the brisk morning air to give their cardiovascular system a good workout.
The event was organized to raise money for Glendale Adventist
Medical Center's
Stroke Services and increase awareness of stoke; the community's second leading
cause of death. The Dash offered a fun atmosphere that took the participants
down Brand Blvd,
through the Americana
and back up again.

This year
for the 1st time, our Chapter took part by presenting "Team Ararat".
Ours was an energetic and enthusiastic group who showed up bright and early,
ready to hit the ground running (or walking!!!). Many
thanks to everyone who participated and congratulations to "Team Ararat"
winners.

The
Easter Festival has become an annual tradition that families look forward to
bringing their children to.
The
event was organized by more than 100 volunteers who are one of the reason for
its huge success every year.

Invest in the Future of Our Youth
Homenetmen Glendale "Ararat" Chapter, recently celebrated the opening of the Gagik & Knarik Galstian Gymnasium in North Campus. The new facility will enable us to serve an additional 300 to 400 youth in various athletic, cultural and scouting programs. Since the opening of the new facility, we have been able to launch the exceedingly popular Basketball Developmental League (D-League) and Jr. NBA programs for our 4 to12 year old members. However, this venture is far from finished, still requiring the help of members and friends to achieve its full potential. In order to complete this enormous and yet very needed project and at the same time give our members and friends of "Ararat" the opportunity to be a part of its development, once again, we are implementing the "SQURE FOOT ADOPTION" which incorporates dedication bricks that will be installed inside the gym and the "TILE" project with dedication tiles that will be mounted on the outside wall. Your donated tile will be a beautiful and everlasting tribute to your family's contribution.

The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry
The Armenian Bone
Marrow Donor Registry
(ABMDR) has organized a bone
marrow drive for a four year old girl named Charlotte, who is suffering from Aplastic
Anemia, a dangerous bone marrow disorder that has resulted in the failure of
Charlotte's bone marrow to produce adequate blood cells. She is currently
receiving transfusions and may need a bone marrow transplant. There are no
matches for her among her family, on the National Bone Marrow Registry or on
the Armenian Bone Marrow Registry. As bone
marrow matches are dependent on genetics, ethnicity is a key component to
finding a match. Thus, Charlotte's family and friends are asking Armenians
across the country to consider registering to be bone marrow donors.
