Ararat 7 Climbs Mount Ararat

A group of Homenetmen Ararat members and parents got together in
May of 2009 and formed a hiking team to climb Mount Ararat. The team was named "Ararat 7" due to seven
members of the team. It took four months
to make the travel arrangements, hire a guide, and train physically for the
climb. The team flew to Yerevan and drove through Georgia to get to the City of
Dogubeyazit in Turkey near the slope of Mount Ararat.
On August 30, 2009, the Ararat 7 team started the adventure from
hotel Isfahan in the town of Dogubeyazit Turkey and drove about an hour to the
trail head at 7,130 ft elevation accompanied by a guide and a cook. It took the
team three days to reach the summit. The
trail was extremely steep covered by fresh snow from the earlier storm and lack
of oxygen with low pressure due to the high elevation made the climbing very
difficult. The team made to the summit
at the elevation of 16,900 ft around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009.
This was a great personal achievement and group accomplishment for
the Homenetmen Ararat family to raise the Armenian flag on the summit of Mount
Ararat at the center of our historic homeland.

Ararat 7 Team Members are Vatchik Zakarian,
Baghdig Der Gregorian, Seroj Khachikian,
Vahik
Avanessian,
Adis Zadourian, Roubik Mardirosian, and Roubik Sarian.

Relay For Life
Relay
For LifeŽ is
a fun-filled, overnight event that empowers everyone to help fight cancer by
raising money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society's lifesaving
mission. Relay For LifeŽ symbolizes the hope
that people lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face the
disease have support, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. On October 17, Ararat's team along with many others camped out at
Scholl Canyon and our members took turn walking or running around the field.
What a great team we had. What a great effort. This
year, team Ararat achieved its highest Relay fund-raising. We had 15 members and raised $2,345 for American Cancer
Society.
Not only did we enjoy having members from ALL Divisions (yes,
ALL!), Ararat Executive Board extended an unprecedented support with
its outstanding participation, and contributions. Five members from Scouts and Basketball divisions stayed overnight and continued walking for
the team.
We thank all who joined us for this magnificent experience
and hope to see many more members walking with us next year.

fun and excitement with a new vigor.

Every
Division sent

revered title. General Athletics Division team was the winner of the competition.
The
contest categories were: History, Science, Geography, Arts, Sports, Current
Events, and Miscellaneous Subjects. |
Scholarship Awards
On November 22, during our annual Volunteer Appreciation Day, we honored four of our members with the 9th Annual Scholarship
Awards. This year's winners are Narineh Yermian, Evana Grigorian, Edrick Sarkissian and Narbeh Ebrahimian.

These
exceptional young members are recognized not only for achieving academic
excellence, but for their tireless
community and Chapter related activities. We
congratulate them and wish them much success in their future endeavors. |

enjoyable sport.
