We look forward to working closely with councilmember Friedman in the coming years to expand and extend our services to the community.
Classical Event

On Sunday, June 14, the Cultural Division organized a classical event of music and recitation, to commemorate the 140th anniversary of Komitas's and 85th anniversary of Paruyr Sevak's birth and celebrate their cultural legacy.

Brilliant performances by much admired artists such as soprano and conductor, Alenoush Yeghnazar; pianist, Vatche Mankerian; and narrators, Lillit Keheyan and Razmik Shahgaldians marked this extraordinary evening. The acclaimed Hi-Am Quartet and the Ararat Choir performed breathtaking pieces from Komitas and Paruyr Sevak.

The event was exalting and sublime and was very well received by the culture-loving audiance with several requests for a repeat performance.

Ararat Kids' Summer Day Camp
sdc

Established in 2002
as a four-week test program, the event is giving traditional summer day camps a facelift by taking a diverse approach to the usual arts, crafts, and sports activities that comprise the summer-day-camp experience.

sdcInstead of merely making crafts out of Popsicle sticks and playing in the sweltering sun, the camp, which will run from July 6 through August 28, this summer, has taken a multicultural and multidisciplinary approach.

The eight-week program will encompass a wide array of themes ranging from arts and music to science, sports, nature, weekly field trips and great food!

Reuben Nakian Art Exibit at Forest Lawn Museum

Forest Lawn Museum invites you to the opening reception of Reuben Nakian's "a modernist Voyage to Roman and Greek Traditions" on Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This extraordinary exhibition examines the work of one of the most important figures in the contemporary art, Armenian-American sculptor; Reuben Nakian (1897-1986). The exhibition features 26 bronze sculptures, plus 19 prints and drawings, from the Nakian estate and private collections and presents them within the context of Nakian's contribution as an Abstract Expressionist focused on classical legends, mythology, and biblical tragedies.
