The tallying is complete and Project Homeless Connect, the service and resource fair held on January 27th, has some impressive numbers to report.
Thank you to the many volunteers and service providers who shared their time and resources serving the vulnerable members of our community.
Project Homeless Connect by the numbers Number of...
Attendees: 321 guests were counted, 41 of whom identified themselves as veterans. (Last year, 222 guests were counted.) Organizations providing services and sharing information: 60! Volunteers from the community: 95! Pairs of boots given away: 200 Haircuts given: 87 Medical, dental, and vision appointments taken: 174 Individual tax returns prepared: 20. Total amount of Earned Income Tax Credit claimed: $6,999 Total amount of refunds returning to our community: $14,574 Payment plans made for tax balances owing: 5 returns totaling $5,222 Gallons of coffee served: 40 Bottles of water served: 160 Cans of pop served: 120 Sack lunches distributed: 200 C-Tran day bus passes distributed: approximately 100
And, there was much more in the way of counseling (legal, mental health, spiritual, domestic violence, veterans), arts and crafts, education and employment assistance, and benefits. At the Giving Corner guests found clothes, personal care items, backpacks, and other helpful items.
