Maintaining a Healthy Lawn Do You Need to Aerate or Re-Sod?
The weather has certainly warmed up and
this is a great time to have your lawn aerated to ensure water and
nutrients make their way to the roots of your turf.
Besides allowing your lawn's root system to b reathe, aerating is great for areas that may be compacted due to heavy foot traffic or by overgrown thatch. Aerating
is also effective for rejuvenating your lawn and helping to fill in
bare spots.
If you're thinking it may be time to replace your sod, it is vital to know exactly
what is going in its place. Before Top Notch Pest Control technicians
install fresh sod, they are trained to properly prepare the property for
new sod to avoid repeat pest offenders, whereas many ordinary lawn care
companies are not.
Watering is key to keeping your new sod healthy. Top Notch Pest
Control technicians advise watering early in the morning, instead of overnight, which can produce a spongy fungus. Also, limit watering your
lawn to twice a week and use only half an inch to three-quarters of an
inch of water per cycle.
When sod is ready to be mowed, keep mower blades sharp to create a
clean, smooth cut; Frayed, brown edges are the result of dull mower
blades. When trimming, it is best to only remove a third of the total
grass blade.
The length of a blade of grass is directly proportionate to
the length of the root; the longer the root system, the healthier your
grass will be. This ensures plenty of opportunity for the grass to
absorb sunlight and vitamins.
If you're unsure on whether your turf needs to be aerated or re-sodded, we're more than happy to assess your property and work with you to get and maintain a great-looking lawn! Give us a call to schedule an assessment or to add a service to your next service appointment!

Mosquito Season is Here! Heavy Rains Create Breeding Ground
Heavier than normal seasonal rains coupled with the warmer weather has created a bustling mosquito season that arrived about a month early this year! While the cooler temps in the winter generally kill off most mosquitoes, eggs can survive while hiding in vegetation or inside houses - even after drying out!
Hillsborough County Mosquito Control is also reporting higher numbers of mosquitoes in the area which usually peak much later in the season. Besides leaving their annoying red, itchy and bumpy calling card, if not treated, mosquitoes can spread disease to you, your employees, your family and even your pets! Top Notch Pest Control
technicians are skilled in ridding your property of current pests as well as potential bloodsuckers waiting
to hatch.
