Get Wrapped up at Ring's End
Mother nature is capable of serious destruction- and it can happen fast. A homeowner must do all they can to ensure their home is not damaged and ruined by the elements. It is
vital that your home is properly housewrapped for protection from these conditions. A properly installed housewrap system (which includes proper flashing and sealing around penetrations) will vastly improve the overall thermal efficiency and performance of your home's wall system. Housewrap enhances performance of a wall system by reducing air leakage through the wall cavity, increasing the comfort level of a home or building.
The wrapping material is vapor permeable and assists in the overall drying potential of the wall should liquid moisture or condensation accumulate in the wall cavity. Correctly applied housewrap will help keep your home comfortable and prevent water damage problems down the line.
Housewrap effectively protects the wall system components from exposure to water. As the seasons change, the moisture content of the outdoor air changes. If moisture vapor becomes trapped in the wall cavity of your home, the resulting condensation can lead to growth of mold, mildew and rotting of some building materials. A properly-wrapped home allows potentially harmful moisture vapor to move into and out of a wall system so that it does not become trapped.
Housewrap acts as a drainage plane by deflecting water and channeling it down the surface of the exterior wall. This allows the housewrap to act as a secondary barrier to water that has penetrated the exterior plane, thus reducing the likelihood of building rot/degradation. Housewrap must be properly installed for water damage protection; incorrectly applied housewrap will not prevent rot or mold. Ring's End has the supplies you need to properly wrap your home.

With fall just around the corner we put together this maintenance checklist so you can ensure your home is winter-ready. Save yourself the stress and check your home before problems develop or worsen. If you find any issues during your inspection, head over to your local Ring's End to get the supplies you need.
- Check basement for leaks and seepage
- Remove hair from drains in sinks, tubs, and showers; use a drain cleaner approved for the materials in your plumbing system
- Test all ground fault circuit interrupters (monthly)
- Check pressure levels on fire extinguishers. Service if necessary (monthly)
- Change furnace filters
- Inspect and clean dryer vent systems inside and out
- Vacuum coils behind the refrigerator
- Check weather stripping on windows and doors
- Clean and inspect window and door screens
- Check painted surfaces for paint failure and/ or mildew
- Test smoke alarms; replace batteries
- Clean out sump tank and clear screen on sump pump
- Trim back overhanging limbs on trees; trim back shrubs if overgrown around the house
- Clean leaves and other debris from around outside air conditioners
- Clean debris out of window wells, storm drains, gutters, and downspouts
- Inspect gutters for sagging or damage
