New Economic Stimulus Plan
Rewards You for Buying Windows & Doors*
$1500 Energy Tax Credit
* When you install Qualifying Windows and Doors in an Existing Residential Home.
As part of the Economic Stimulus plan , the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 modifies and
extends federal tax credits for "qualified energy efficient improvements" which include windows and doors. The new tax credits are for 30% of the cost of the eligible product up to an aggregate limit of $1,500 for tax years 2009 and 2010.
Here's How to Qualify:
Ø The tax credit applies to "qualified energy efficient improvements" which include exterior windows, doors, and skylights, for the taxpayer's primary residence.
Ø To be eligible, windows, doors and skylights must have both a U-Factor equal to or less than 0.30 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) equal to or less than .030.
Ø Purchase and install qualifying products beginning January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010 and meet all requirements outlined in the federal tax code.
Ø Save your sales receipt and each window or door performance label (NFRC/ENERGY STAR® label) with your tax documents.
Ø Claim the tax credit associated with your qualifying purchase on your Federal filing for the 2009 and/or 2010 tax year.
Tax credit is for the cost of the product only and does not include installation costs. It is a dollar-for-dollar reduction subtracted from your tax liability. The $1,500 can be subtracted directly from the amount of tax owed - unlike a deduction.
