Thanks...
As the most active time of the Nursery's year draws to a close,
thanks from the Nursery at Markham:
To our shoppers:
For continuing to visit the nursery and purchase plants even in this terrible economy. Your purchases enable Markham to continue maintaining and upgrading the International Garden - we hope you meander through it the next time you are at Markham and see all the changes made during the last year.
To our volunteers:
For all your hard work and long-standing commitment to Markham. Our volunteers perform all the hard work needed to keep the Nursery looking good and stocked with interesting plants. Our core of Master Gardener volunteers are a valued resource giving expert advice to shoppers on Tuesday and at our monthly sales. Special thanks this year goes to two volunteers: Jim Felde who helps in so many areas from installing signs in the international garden to repairing wheel barrows to trying to figure out our ancient laptop and to Steve Morse for helping keep things going every Tuesday, putting out the signs for the sales early on Saturday mornings and of course, editing and contributing to these weekly emails.
To Markham Board members:
For supporting the activities in the Nursery. In particular, thanks to Chris for among other things manning the cashier position at the monthly sales, producing many of the plant identification signs in the international garden and contributing a valuable perspective on the history and mission of the park. Thanks to Kelly and Troy, for their informative and often humorous email contributions. Both Kelly's and Troy's personal gardens have been on the Bringing Back the Natives Tour and if you've been fortunate enough to see them you can appreciate what good garden design is. And finally, thanks to Susana for just being Susana: maestro of irrigation, architect of nursery improvements, propagator extraordinaire of California Natives and builder of greenhouses, scaling incredible heights with her portable drill in hand.
We hope you have enjoyed the emails. they will be less frequent and a little more random over the next few months as we regroup for 2012. For you "garden-in-all-weather" gardeners, we'll be open most Tuesday mornings, weather and holidays permitting for the purchase of the "right plant". (Isn't that what California gardening is all about?). And we'll be letting you know for sure when the first Saturday sale is next year.
Here's hoping that 2012 will bring "just right" winter rains and an early, warm and sunny spring so we can all be outside again enjoying our gardens soon.
