Native Iris

California native iris can be divided into two groups.  There are the eleven Pacific Coast Native Iris and there is the Western Blue Flag (Iris Missouriensis).  The PCNI's grow from Oregon clear down to Santa Barbara.  Most are found near the coast but one is actually found in the Sierras just east of Bakersfield.  The one we are all familiar with is the Douglas as it is generally considered to be easiest to breed.

At this upcoming sale we will have only hybrids but we will offer some true natives in the future.  The Native Iris table will feature plants grown both from seed and from divisions.  Be sure and stop to take a look as each year our offerings are different and this year is looking especially impressive!

Aquilegia (Columbine)

These graceful perennials are treasured for their spring and early summer flowers and for their fern like foliage. The bell shaped flowers come in a variety of colors including red, yellow, pink, purple, blue, orange and white; frequently the color of the spurs and the petals contrast.  They come in both single and double forms.  Preferring moist but well drained soil in our warm central county locations, they do well in a woodland setting or partially shaded location. We have a varied selection at Markham but not very many of any one kind.  Some available are "McKana Giants" , "Origami Yellow", "Origami Blue & White", "Origami Red & White", "Songbird Dove", "Songbird Goldfinch", and "Alpine".

Come and Visit the Nursery
