Plant of the week:

Let Your Garden Shine! A Class on Garden Lighting! September 18th

Plant of the Week:   Ceanothus hearstiorum

Common name: San Simeon or Hearst's Ceanothus
This relatively rare plant grows only on the central coast of California where it gets summer fog and mild temperatures. It is one of the lowest Ceanothus, about 6" high and up to 12 foot wide. It is also one of the more shade tolerant so it can be grown in interior sites in part shade if given about once a week water in the summer; loves alkaline adobe soil and dislikes sand, and forms a star-shaped pattern as it grows. The leaves are small, soft, dark green and aromatic and bear blue flowers in late spring. Frost tolerant to 17 degrees F.

Editor's Note:  About a year ago for the October 2009 Plant Sale we featured Ceanothus. You can see that Nursery email for a review ... here... although we cannot guarantee that we still have all of these in stock, we do have a selection of Ceanothus, but the quantities vary.
