Plant of the week: Pelargonium sidoides
With its small stature and long blooming period, this plant is a good choice for containers or the front of a border. It has rosettes of soft gray leaves with a felt like texture and dark burgundy flowers which are present for much of the growing season. It grows to about a foot tall and wide; flowers are borne on arching stems above the foliage. Even though it has a delicate appearance, this is a tough plant -it has survived two cold winters in a container in my garden. Likes full sun or some small amount of shade and good drainage. If this plant is interesting to you, then you will want to attend this Saturday's presentation at Markham (see next below). Our speaker is Robin Parer, owner of Geraniaceae Nursery in Marin county and well-known expert on all things Pelargoniums and Geraniums.
