CSR Spells Success for Services Firm
CBSR Advisor, Agnieszka Rum and Stantec's Senior Sustainability Consultant Wesley Gee were recently interviewed by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada magazine on achieving bottom line benefits with CSR while operating internationally.
Stantec, the professional services consulting firm, has 11,000 employees in offices worldwide and offers design, engineering, project management and other services for infrastructure and facilities projects. "Sustainability is a huge priority for our international business," says Gee. "A large number of our clients, both public and private, have high expectations. So do employees. They want us to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to what industry wants and needs."
Rum agrees. "If Canadian companies want to operate internationally, they need to achieve value for external stakeholders in the market and look for shared value opportunities to generate more business." Investors are also setting the bar higher, expecting transparency and sustainable corporate practices that include disclosing environmental and social risks, and reporting on opportunities and performance.

ATB Financial and Calgary Homeless Foundation - Embracing New Models of Partnership

As Canadian businesses integrate social and environmental commitments into their organizations, those with a strong history of community involvement are moving away from traditional corporate philanthropy and sponsorship toward models with a much wider impact. ATB Financial and the Calgary Homeless Foundation recently announced a partnership which shows how a business can integrate their expertise with their community involvement strategy to help address some of the most challenging social issues of our time.
ATB Financial recognized the value of a partnership that would leverage their banking skills and financial expertise to help with the complex issue of homelessness. The result is the ATB Social Enterprise Incubator.
