Dear , June marks the beginning of SMG's prime summer season. With snow melting fast in the mountains, our summer trail and rock conditions are improving quickly and this is the best time of the year for alpine climbs such as McGown Peak, the Grand Mogul, and Horstmann Peak. We have some new guided programs in the works and we're excited about new employees in our Ketchum office.
Read on below for more information and stay in touch with any questions about our guided programs.
We look forward to seeing you, Erik Leidecker

Erik's jobs include product design and testing, as well as content development to help the marketing team spread the word about this great gear. Speaking of content, check out the First Ascent's Born Out There blog to find out what the Ski Guide Team has been up to! First Ascent has also outfitted uniforms for SMG guides! |
Alpine Climbs
June and July are the best months for alpine climbing in our area. The classic couloirs are filled in and firm, and the talus fields are still covered with snow!
Check out or new Alpine Climbs pages for a sampling of some of our favorite routes in the Pioneers, the Lost Rivers, and of course, the Sawtooths. Photo: Erik Leidecker leading clients in classic alpine terrain. |
Rock Climbing
Climbing ranges from the City of Rocks in southern Idaho, to single and multi-pitch routes on the 'super slabs' in Redfish Canyon, or classic, traditional multi-pitch routes like the Finger of Fate and the Elephants Perch.
We do custom trips as well as scheduled events w/ discounted prices.
Beginner, Intermidiate to Advanced! See our Rock Climbing page for more information.

Sawtooth Trekking
There are many loops and traverses available in the range. Connecting fishing in alpine lakes with bagging non-technical peaks is a great way to get out and explore the wilderness.
Hike past spires and into deep hidden cirques, that only a guide would know about. To round out your adventure take the shuttle boat across Redfish Lake to or from the trailhead.
See our Trekking/Fishing page for more information. |
Custom Trips/Guiding
Whether its you and your family, a business trip, or a couple friends, we can put together a great trip. Combine activities like backpacking, fishing, whitewater rafting and climbing.
Check out our Custom page for some ideas - or call us with your own!
