Featured Line: Grand Mogul - Boyscout Couloir By Mike Hatch
Across Redfish Lake resides the sentinel to Redfish Canyon,
the Grand Mogul. This peak rises over 3,000 ft. from the lake and
cleaving through its north face lies the Boy Scout Coulior - a gorgeous
1200ft. descent through towering walls of pink granite. The line begins
in a col along the jagged northwest ridge and the upper half is a beautiful
hanging mid-30 degree snowfield. The walls soon close in and the
coulior pinches off and rolls over to a chock stone, where on thin years a
short rappel is called for. But some years, like in 2008, the rock band
is covered, and no rappel is needed; you just make jump turns through
thigh-deep sluff. Then, the towering walls pull back and the shot opens
up into a high cirque and you arc your final signature down the velvet apron..
