I am thankful for the help Steve provided in my efforts to revive an aging lift. It was an old and discontinued linear actuator that I needed and he took the time to find a good used one. Powerful Tools for Caregivers Offered This 6-week program is for family and friends caring for older adults who have long-term conditions. The class provides caregivers the skills and confidence to better care for themselves while caring for others. Many caregivers have found the class beneficial, including those caring for a spouse or partner and adult children caring for parents. Class is offered at Christ Lutheran Church, 8211 112th St. SW in Lakewood on Tuesday afternoons April 14-May 19 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. RSVP to Diane Chamusco at (253) 584-7829 or the church at (253) 582-0331.
WSDOT Surveys Accessibility of Roadside Features
A new WA State Department of Transportation on-line survey has been created for people to report their experience regarding the accessibility of public roadways and roadside features, such as sidewalks, curb ramps, street crossings and pedestrian signals. WSDOT hopes to identify the locations of accessibility problem-areas around the state, evaluate the accessibility of the roadway features included in the survey and notify other jurisdictions when accessibility complaints are related to city streets or county roadway. March 16 - Emergency Preparedness Class Center for Independence hosts a special workshop for individuals with disabilities, families and friends. Held 2 to 5 p.m. at the Lakewood Public Library, 6300 Wildaire Rd SW. Limited seating. RSVP by calling (253) 582-1253.
March 24 - Tools 4 Success A free conference for persons with disabilities, professionals and parents focusing on preparation for employment. Held 8 am - 1 pm at Tacoma Community College, Building 29, 6501 South 19th Street. Keynote and workshops (interviewing, resumés, disability disclosure, job search tools, employment rights, navigating employment services) followed by vendor booth visits, lunch and keynote. No fees for job seekers with disabilities, students, and support staff; $20 for parents and professionals. Pre-registration required. Call TCC Ask Me Desk (253) 460-4387.
April 18 - Senior Living Fair, South Hill Mall Informational displays focusing on the needs of older adults. Two courts will be utilized for the event: Target and Center Courts. Entertainment includes The Cowboys, A Touch of Class band and Bill Hallett/Jazz Pianist. No Cost to attend.
