Imagine my surprise to find a friend I'd first met a decade earlier when we both worked for GTE  in Stamford Connecticut. Here she was in 2002, working behind the check-out desk at Forestwood Antique Mall !  I'd just become a dealer there. 

  

Norma Puerner had lived in many places in the world, but as with me, on her assignment in Dallas, she'd met her husband-to-be, and the transfer became a transplant.

The design of this beautiful porcelain lamp by Carl Thiend is that of a rocaille or French grotto garden depicting flowers, shells, fruits and cherubs. Each flower petal was hand-rolled, applied, and painted. This lamp is marked with two back stamps of the Saxonian Porcelain Factory. A horizontal brass "S" receptacle holds two standard base light bulbs. Wedding Domes became a fad in France over a century ago. They were given to newly wedded couples who added mementos during their lives together. Signed by the artist, this miniature portrait shows a woman in a green dress with delicate lace. She is wearing a cross on her bosom, two necklaces and earrings. Watch fobs were an important part of men's and women's attire during the Victorian period. This ornate gold filled fob dates between 1880 and 1915. Approximate length: 5 1/2" from clip to wax seal. Antique bronze figure, called Meditation by 19th century French sculptor Forestier, was listed in November 2007 Heritage Auctions catalog with a $2000-$4000 estimate. Forestier exhibited in the Paris Salon starting in 1890.
