Greetings!
With winter fading fast we've decided to welcome in spring with a fresh new look for our Email Newsletter.
While there is no shortage of snow for skiing & snowshoeing in Algonquin Park, the staff at our Oxtongue Lake and Opeongo stores are starting to think about canoe tripping. We've been getting water taxi bookings for spring fishing trips and taking a lot of reservations for canoe trip packages and rentals. And, of course, we have already had many calls with the ever-popular question, "When do you think the ice will go out this year?" Even with the wacky winter we've had, it is still too early to know.
Be sure to enter your Lake Opeongo ice out prediction below.

When does the ice go out?
Gord Baker - Oxtongue Lake
| | Lake Opeongo, by Nigel Hart |
A few seasons ago, our intrepid reporters unearthed a secret document revealing the results of a multi-year study of ice-out dates on Lake Opeongo, which is usually one of the last lakes to open up in Algonquin Park. "Ice-out" refers to the day when boat travel from end to end is unimpeded by ice. Over 35 years of record-keeping, the average ice-out date on Opeongo was April 24, the earliest was April 7th, 2010, and the latest, May 16, 1972. The average ice-out date is usually the third or fourth week of April. With such a wide range of potential dates, you now know why our staff have such difficulty answering that popular question, "When will the ice go out this year?" The best strategy for trip planning is to have a flexible schedule and route plan, then phone us closer to your trip dates to get a better prediction. Or better yet, join the fun and participate in guessing game by checking out the links below:Current conditions, pictures & reports: http://algonquinoutfitters.blogspot.com/Canoe Lake ice out conditions and ice-out prediction contest: http://www.canoelake.ca/|

Ridley Bikes, New at AO
Algonquin Outfitters is proud to welcome a new road bike brand to the 2012 bike line up. Ridley Bikes come from Belgium, a place famous for serving up some of the harshest cycling conditions from cobbled climbs to driving rain & snow. From this place came one philosophy "Form Follows Function".
Every tube shape, frame design & geometry is chosen for a specific reason. Reliability, stiffness, & strength are the essence of their designs. Because of that, Ridley is a brand that complements what we are about at Algonquin Outfitters, offering our riders a uniquely designed bike with a specific purpose. Drop in today for a test ride & check out the new 2012 line up. ridley-bikes.com |

Mobile App of the Month
I don't know how often I've sat on the shore of a sprawling lake in Algonquin's interior and wished I could share the view with others.
Photosynth makes this possible by combining images from your digital camera using a powerful set of tools for capturing and viewing the world in 3D. You can share these views with your friends on Facebook, publish them to Bing Maps, or embed them in your own web site or blog. Above is just one of many images I have captured using my iPhone and the Photosynth App. This one happens to feature our Lake Opeongo location with waterfront store, rental canoes and kayaks, a couple of water taxis and the permit office. www.photosynth.net
