Once again our online photo contest was very popular with 134 photos entered featuring all aspects of Algonquin Park. This time around we asked you to submit photos that illustrate "My Algonquin". People entered photos of canoeing, hiking, camping and general scenery and wildlife, featuring what Algonquin Park ment to them. One photo stood out during the contest as it compared this persons two loves in their life, the park and their spouse.
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who entered our "My Algonqin" photo contest and also thank our judges for the work they put in to come up with our winners.
Our next photo contest will be delayed a bit ( until April) as we are going to try something a little different. For now if you want to share some photos with us you might want to sign up for our Facebook page where you can post photos to our wall and allow others to comment on them.
And our winners are:
First place goes to Chuck Hammill - Mississauga, Ontario | | FIRST PLACE - "My Two Loves - My wife and My Algonquin" My Algonquin: My favourite Algonquin memories are of times spent with my wife canoeing the quiet waters of our favourite place. Here, the morning sun adds its glow to the moment. On this route we have seen bear, beaver and moose -- all in one morning. We have also canoed quietly past a loon sitting on its nest and the almost always present great blue herons. Magic moments with my two loves!! - Canisbay Lake, Algonquin Park |
Second place goes to Roger Casement - St. Catharines, Ontario | | SECOND PLACE - "Solitude" - What's great about the park is the 'solitude' you feel being there. You can get a sense of how small you really are in the world (or universe for that matter, just look up at night!! WOW!) by traveling around a bit on the many lakes in the park. This shot was taken while waiting for one of the usual spectacular sunsets on Grand Lake at Achray campground. This lone paddler was getting a front row seat between me and the sunset so instead of letting it ruin the sunset shot, I used him to make something even more unique. Thanks fellow solitude seeker. - Grand Lake, Achray campground, Algonquin Park |
Third place goes to Joshua Hakin - London, Ontario | | THIRD PLACE "Symmetry and Balance" - Algonquin Park is the essence of balance and symmetry to me. It is here that life ties up with a peacefulness that balances out our hectic day to day lives. All things seem to converge at one point when we take the time to enjoy a beautiful Algonquin sunset. The sky converges with water on the horizon, two points of land converge, the day meets the night as the sun drops out of sight. The balance of two halves are perfectly illustrated by nature, and for many of us Algonquin is our counterweight to balance the pressures of life and maintain our symmetry. - Algonquin Park |
