School activities are winding down and next Friday, June 5 begins are summer season and the pool's regular summer hours (for complete times - visit the website).
This weekend, the pool will be closed to undergo some much needed maintenance. The pool will be close beginning today, Friday May 29 and will re-open on Tuesday, June 2, just in time for a full week of private parties - beginning with our "Seniors" Event on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (a special program on water fitness for those in our community ages 55+). Because of the closure, Swim Team will not practice today, Saturday or Monday. Practice will resume on Tuesday, June 2.
To give you a little background - our pool is 43 years old and has undergone some extreme trauma. The property behind us flooded the pool on April 27-28 during the severe rainstorm that closed the area-schools for one day. Due to this flooding, we had to empty and refill the pool in less than 72 hours to be ready for our first day of Swim Team practice on May 1. Clearly, this was not adequate time for the pool and the chemistry to balance with the 120,000 gallons of fresh water. Although all testing shows our chemistry is perfect and has been for about 2 weeks now, we are still experiencing cloudiness. So, we have concluded that we must temporarily close the pool to let it "rest" and the "matter" settle on the bottom of the pool so it can be completely vacuumed out. With swim team daily and open swim over the weekends, we have really kept the pool stirred up. If we do not take this action now, we will continue to have this problem all summer. While the pool is closed, we will also be doing much needed maintenance on the sand filters. We will be replacing the sand in these filters with a newer type of media that will help increase the performance of our filtering system, as well.
The SORA facility itself will be OPEN to members this weekend (including the baby pool). As an added benefit for the kids, we will have a large inflatable water-slide and a bounce-house for them to play in and cool off. Concessions, basketball, volleyball, ping-pong and the likes will be available, as always. Although it's not the same as playing in the pool, these will be great alternatives for the kids and they are sure to have fun!
We appreciate your understanding. If you have any questions feel free to call me. |
