Why Pray?
The longer I "do ministry" the more aware I become that the whole enterprise is so dependent on me being dependent. Tozer made the point that a prayerless pastor is a prideful pastor because he thinks he can do it by himself. He can't. Not if he wants real Spirit power in the ministry. And what's true for him, must be true of each of the pastors and elders.
Of course, the pastors and elders praying is only the start. Community shepherds, small group leaders and, in fact, each member of the church should be praying people...wholly dependent on God. It is in prayer that we say, "We Believe" and see our faith grow as God works in our lives and the lives of those around us! We believe firmly in the power of prayer!
A great opportunity to pray is coming up for our church (not that we shouldn't be praying all the time!) during our "Week of Prayer" starting Sunday, January 25. You will have opportunities to pray in your small groups as well as joining with others for "The 24 Hours of Prayer" from Wednesday at 9:00 AM through to Thursday at 9:00 AM at the church office.
To see all of the opportunities or to sign up for the "24 Hours", see our prayer page.
Remember, without prayer, nothing else matters!

Global Partnership: Dominican Republic
This Thursday, January 22 Cheryl and I will be heading to the Dominican Republic for a week to survey a possible global ministries partnership among the Haitians living in the D.R. We are being taken there by Bill (far left) and Debbie Stephenson, members here at Harvest, who have been burdened with the need for church planting and pastor training in several villages along the north shore of that nation. There is a potential for this to become a Harvest Bible Fellowship ministry.
I will be speaking on several occasions...including at "the church in the woods"...and will be meeting and interviewing a couple of key leaders. Please pray that God gives us his favour as we travel and make these important contacts. |
New on the website...
Blog
Harvest now has its own blog...short for web log...or an online journal or diary. We've called it, "For Those with Ears" and the pastors primarily will be adding a few entries a week on cool stuff that is happening in the life of our church family. You can see the first few entries here. Be sure to bookmark the page or better yet, subscribe and get an email reminder in your inbox whenever a new post is added.
ForumYou'll also notice a change to the forum - it's smaller and more focused. The forum will continue to provide a place for community building in areas like classified ads, prayer requests and chit chat. You can access the forum from the main page of the blog, or bookmark this page.

E-Bulletin
And while we're talking electronic communications...the retiring of the print bulletin means the ramping up of our e-bulletin. Be sure to read the weekly announcements that will come to your inbox every Friday or you can find it here on the website.
