Work for Christ on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve we are offering childcare for children up to age three. We're looking for twenty adults (grade nine and older) who could serve in one of the services. Please let Amy know if you are able to serve on Christmas Eve.

The APPEARING of Jesus Christ: Grasping the only true hope we have

Levi with Santa hatChristmas is a time when we celebrate the appearance on earth of Jesus Christ as a baby.  We love to hear and tell that story.  But what we often forget is that Jesus appeared long before that great day in history.  He appeared centuries before to make a promise, to deliver hope.   We forget too that he is coming again - really soon - to make hope visible and to fulfill everything he promised.  To a world spinning its wheels in desperation...to people who are discouraged, distraught and looking for some kind of hope that will not disappoint, these timely messages from God's Word will encourage and strengthen for the days ahead and deliver the only true hope anyone can grasp.

Baskets of Love for Ghana
There's still time to "purchase" a Basket of Love for families in West Africa.  The IN Network staff in Ghana will purchase in that country the staples a family will need for a month.  Your $25 gift blesses a family and helps the local economy too.  A double...triple blessing!  Stop by the table in the foyer this Sunday and make your donation.

Invite a Friend
Christmas is always a great time to invite friends and family to the church.  You've been praying for boldness to share the message and...well, maybe you could be bold enough to pass along an invitation or two. Ask others to join you for one of our Christmas services on Sunday, December 21 or on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24.   We've printed invitation cards for you to use.  Watch for them in the coming weeks.

A 'Get Out There' Story
I'm hearing about many of you who are getting out there and simply seizing the opportunities to speak for Christ when they come your way.  Here's the account of one man's effort to share the message of Christ with a client:

I have been working on a cottage up in the Muskokas for a very wealthy client.  For about a week he and his wife have been saying money is no object and they have lots of it.  They also talk a lot about how frivolously they spend it.  Well on Tuesday of this week he went off on one of his tangents about money again and I turned to him and said, "It will all burn someday".  I was a little shocked at myself but knew that what I said was true.  He got a real funny look on his face and replied, "The fire hazard is low this week".  I went on to say that I was a Christian and that when Christ comes again everything will end.  I was a little shocked at myself for saying what I said.  I think it had to do with me finally being bold enough to share Christ because I am a bit introverted until I get to know the person, and to be fully truthful, his comments of money were really grinding on my nerves.  I was also shocked because my job may be on the line but like I wrote earlier what I told him was the truth. Well on Wednesday his wife came into the cottage with a box of pizza and pop.  This was a first for these people to buy myself and my co-worker lunch.  His wife pulled me aside and thanked me for the work that was getting done and how good it looked.  What was really neat was that she thanked me for my honesty and loyalty.  On Friday she came back to the cottage and told me that her and her husband would like me and my co-worker up for another week to start and finish another little project.  So I may get another opportunity to chat with them.... only God knows....

Great stuff!  Keep it up everyone.  And send in your stories.

"The Wall"
It is great to see so many names on the banner on the side wall in the worship centre.  Why not come early on Sunday and spend a few minutes at "The Wall" praying for the names that are there?  Pray for boldness for the believers in their lives and pray for Holy Spirit conviction to bring them to faith in Christ.

And plan to join us Wednesday evening, November 26 for our monthly prayer meeting at TCS where these names will be the focus of our prayer time.
Family Chat
On Sunday, November 16 I took a few minutes following the service to share about three important matters: how we communicate, what our finances are doing and what's up with church planting right now. To get a complete summary, listen to the family chat.

Regarding our finances, to overcome our operating deficit we need to do just one small thing: if each person or family who regularly gives could simply double their weekly gift twice before year end, we would easily erase the current shortfall. That's "double x 2"...or..."double double"! You should know also that we're working hard to trim expenses in the last part of this year (we have already cut more than $60,000 from the budget over the course of the year), and we're crafting a budget for 2009 that will prudently address the current economic climate without eliminating all the faith. More details are available in the audio file available above.
