Rwanda is a small land-locked, high altitude country just south of the equator. Historically, commercial coffee was the largest cash crop in the rural areas, but the coffee was under strict control of the government. Rwandan coffee was rarely seen in the U.S. because there was just not that much coffee produced.

       In 1994, the country experienced a genocide that claimed as many as 1 million lives, including many of the country's coffee farmers. In recent years a great international effort has helped to restore the Rwandan coffee market, bringing a truly exceptional coffee into the specialty market and reestablishing a profitable living for many Rwandans.

        The first thing you will notice when tasting is a crispness and citrus bite, this is because the coffee has a naturally high acidity, as most African coffees do. The cup has a medium body, with undertones of milk chocolate. Truly exceptional, it is zesty and bright enough from breakfast yet smooth and balanced for enjoyment throughout the day.
