New Locker Room and Gun Shopping
Recently BA basketball has begun working on a significant upgrade to the program. With the support of the Alumni & Development Office, I have initiated a gift program to accomplish the realization of two goals: 1) the complete renovation of the Team Locker Room, and 2) the purchase of "The Gun" - the best individual and team shooting device on the market. These upgrades, along with the Athletic Department's initiative to explore the best possible video and editing systems for all teams, will further enhance the quality prep school experience received by BA student-athletes. The approximate cost of the Team Room is $2,500 pending the final construction. The Gun ranges in price from 4K-6K new, but I'm also looking at refurbished options. My coaching friends strongly endorse the use of this product. Likewise, former players have reported enthusiastic results from their use of "The Gun" in college workouts. |
We are well on our way to achieving both goals. In fact, through the generosity of individual givers, we have already made the new locker room area a future reality. Additionally, we are nearing the half-way mark towards the purchase of The Gun. I will make more calls in the upcoming weeks to many of you, but please reach out to me or Jess Priola in the Development Office if you want to consider helping us reach our goal. I don't want to miss out on anyone who may want to be part of this effort, but I also understand that this is not the easiest time for all of us to extend ourselves financially without a good reason.
I am also glad because talking to folks about these projects has given me the opportunity to better connect with the great number of BA Basketball Alumni and fans that are out there. My goal is to build on the regular BA e-news and offer quarterly basketball updates.
On another note - I think it would be great to get a group of alumni and BA basketball fans back to campus this year. Last season we hosted the first annual "Winter Classic Tournament" at Bridgton. The tournament featured four top-quality prep-school teams playing some great basketball in the Wolverdome. This year's tournament would be a nice opportunity for you to come back to campus and watch the 2011 team in action against some of our top rivals. I'm also talking with the Development Office about the idea of a summer basketball reunion event where the 'younger crowd' could participate without college conflicts. Look for more information on these ideas in the next issue.
Thanks as always for your support and feedback. I treasure the many conversations we share throughout the year, and am always taken back by the many of you that attend a game in some off-the-wall venue during the middle of winter. That pride and passion is largely what it's all about. My best wishes to you moving forward.
