Dear ,
Welcome to the first summer edition of BA's e-news. Despite several weeks of dreary weather in North Bridgton, campus is officially in summer mode. The dorms have been cleaned, Reunion guests departed, and faculty are enjoying a few hours to put their feet up, although preparations are well underway to welcome the Class of 2010. Please note that during the summer months the e-news will be released on a monthly basis, with one edition in July and one in early-August. If you have any news submissions, please email them to alumni@bridgtonacademy.org. Here is some recent news from campus: |
Campus News:
2009 Hall of Fame Class Inducted - On Saturday, June 6th, twelve accomplished Bridgton alumni, faculty, and trustees were inducted into the Bridgton Academy Hall of Fame. Guests were welcomed to the Saturday lunch by faculty member and Hall of Famer, Tom Austin, and the Pledge of Allegiance was given by another Hall member, Tim Armour '67. After congratulatory comments from Headmaster Grady Vigneau, Chairman Matt Burgess '88 introduced each of the inductees. Although the new Class comes from various backgrounds, geographies, and ages, a common belief and passion for Bridgton Academy was shared in each of their stories. Congratulations to the 2009 Hall of Fame Inductees: Dick Denison '42 (Posthumous Inductee, Trustee 1960-1975), Francis Shottes '49 (Posthumous Inductee), Ted Kershaw '48 (Trustee 2001-2007), Jack Crowley '57, Al Symes '57 (Trustee 1994-2000), Bob Fanning '62 (Trustee 1993-2003, 2006-2008), Dennis Lister '76, Sally Hapenney (Faculty 1965-2002), Lee Harriman (Faculty 1966-1971), The McNeil Family - Dr. Jim McNeil (Trustee 1972-1991), Dr. Kevin McNeil '70, and David McNeil '71. Great Memories From Reunion Weekend 2009 - Over a hundred BA alumni, family, and friends attended the various festivities at this year's Reunion Weekend. It was a busy time, with events including the Fuller-Avery Alumni Golf Classic, a memorial service for longtime Headmaster Bob Walker, various Saturday afternoon activities, and a Reunion banquet on Saturday night. Alumni from a number of years enjoyed the opportunity to catch up and visit old campus haunts. The Class of '89 was shooting hoops in the Wolverdome on Friday, while '59 alumni celebrating their 50th Reunion shared laughs on the Songo River Queen cruise on Saturday. The crowd represented many decades of Bridgton history from adorable Wolverine-toddlers, to an alumna who graduated from Bridgton Academy seventy-nine years ago! A special thank you to all who joined in the celebration, and we look forward to seeing many of you again next year. Check the Reunion website for new pictures next week. The Cleaves Experience a Bit Less Legendary? - For the first time that anyone can remember, monumental work is underway in Cleaves Hall. On the second and third floors new shower stalls are now up and running. The Cleaves basement showers were/are legendary to all Cleaves residents, so this new construction is truly a facelift for one of BA's most historic buildings. The class of 2009-20010 will experience the availability of showers on the floors they reside on. A simple but seemingly a monumental change from the way we have done it for years at BA. Do you have great memories or stories from Cleaves? Send them along to the Alumni Office at alumni@bridgtonacademy.org. |

Alumni Matt Burgess '88 and Tom Hoag '89 Complete Run up Mt. Washington - Once again thanks to David Petri '55, Bridgton Academy was a sponsor at the 49th Annual Mt.Washington Road Race. Tom Hoag '89 and Matt Burgess '88 were the only alumni runners this year. Both finished in fine fashion with the inevitable quote of "Why do I do this to myself?" --knowing full well if given another opportunity to participate they will. A special thanks to Matt Dimers for driving the two back down the hill after the race.
