Students Make College Choices -
With only a few short days before the Class of 2009 leaves Bridgton Academy, the College Counseling office is working at full speed. Congratulations to the Class of 2009 on their work in the college search process. To view a list of college acceptances, click here.

Sullivan AxlFaculty and Student Talent on Display - Guests of the recent BA talent show witnessed a wide array of performances from musicians, dancers, comics, and others. Talent on display included Pat Daley (N. Bridgton, ME) and Matt Gallery's (Chicago, IL) impersonation of the famous Chris Farley/Patrick Swaze 'Chip n' Dale' skit, guitar playing by Kevin Lutz (Wayland, MA), basson performance by faculty member Drew Inzer, somewhat censored comedy from Sean Brine (Westford, MA), and a Guns N' Roses faculty RockBand including Rick Marcella, Pat Shairs '02, Kevin Mellon, and Connor Sullivan as Axl Rose.

Bridgton Searches for New Head Hockey Coach - After ten years of leading Bridgton Academy's ice hockey team, in addition to duties as a teacher, advisor, dorm parent, assistant dean and a host of other daily responsibilities, Jamie Printz has accepted a position at Nichols School in Buffalo, NY to take over their once proud hockey program.

"Jamie has done great things for our hockey program here at Bridgton Academy, including his spearheading of our move to playing a juniors schedule," said Brad Smith, Athletic Director for Bridgton Academy. "Nichols School has long had a proud hockey tradition, but they are facing the same challenges that Bridgton Academy faced just a few years ago, they recognize the work and success Jamie has had here and they are looking for him to find that same success there," Smith continued.

Coach Printz's departure has meant the opening of a national search for a new Head Hockey Coach for Bridgton Academy. "We are looking for a new Head Coach who can help build upon what Coach Printz has accomplished in the past nine years. Our goal is to bring in a coach who is well connected at the college level. As such, he will not only help our young men improve on the ice, but also help place them at an appropriate skill level in the colleges of their choice," said Grady Vigneau, Headmaster. October FootballThe team's fifteenth win of the season came against the nationally ranked Southern Maine Community College Seawolves. The Seawolves had defeated the Wolverines earlier in the season, but Bridgton came out strong, opening a comfortable 13-2 lead by the end of the fourth. Down but not out, SMCC rallied with several key hits, bringing the score to 13-11. The adage "It ain't over 'til it's over," was never more evident, as the Wolverines made their final out with the trying run at the plate.

The team will wrap up it's season this week, with games against the Tilton School (today), St. Joseph's College (Thursday), and a final home game on Saturday versus Gould Academy.

October FootballLacrosse Team Downs Cape Elizabeth, Ends Season Friday - It's been an up and down season for the 2009 Wolverine lacrosse team. The players haven't lacked in effort, but have faced some challenging competition. On Friday, April 17th, Bridgton traveled to Brunswick, Maine to take on Bowdoin College. Despite a strong first half, things began to unravel in the 2nd, ultimately ending in a 12-6 Polar Bear Victory. Highlights for the Wolverines included three goals by Kane Henderson (West Linn, OR), two from Ben Cullen (Huston, TN) and another from Dave Rothenberg (Scranton, PA).

On Wednesday, April 22nd, the team was able to pick up their first win of the season when they took on Cape Elizabeth High School. Bridgton struck first against Cape, and were able to build an impressive 11-4 win on a cold, rainy afternoon. Ryan Hunt (Scarborough, ME) and Junior Burke (Wakefield, RI) both had three goals on the afternoon.

Despite attempts to build momentum from the win, the Wolverines next match-up was not an easy one, traveling to Navy Prep for a showdown between two perpetual sport rivals. The always talented Navy Prep squad was didn't disappoint, breaking apart the Wolverines on their way to an impressive 11-2 win. The squad will play their last game of the season on Friday, May 1st against Hyde School.

October FootballSix LAX Players Earn Division I Scholarships - Bridgton Academy is pleased to announce that six members of the 2009 lacrosse team have signed National Letters of Intent with Division I schools. Eric Clemmenson (Farmington, CT) will be heading to Colgate University, Ben Cullen will attend Air Force, and Dorian Wolff (Fairpoint, NY) will be at Quinnipiac University. We wish these young men the best of luck and look forward to following their future endeavors.

October FootballTennis Team Earns Second Victory, Suffers Close Losses at End of Season - The middle of the road is a tough place for the Wolverine tennis team. After suffering some rough early losses, the past few weeks have seen some highly contested 3-2 match results,  with the Wolverines unfortunately falling on the losing side. On Friday April 24th, the team earned their second win of the season against North Yarmouth Academy. Leading the way was Nick Osgood (Durham, ME) at #3 singles who, in an impressive display of power tennis, bested his opponent in 35 minutes, 6-0, 6-2. Nick Thieme (Falls Church, VA), playing at #2, dispatched his competition 6-2, 6-0 as well. Playing the last match of the day, top singles player Rob Lundberg (Vista, CA) continued his strong season with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over his oppoenent. The tennis team plays their last two matches of the season this week against Gould Academy and Kents Hill.

Courtney Greene2005 Alumnus Picked in NFL Draft - Courtney Greene played as a strong safety for Wolverine football team in the fall of 2004. Hailing from New Rochelle, New York, Greene attended Rutgers University following his stint at Bridgton. At Rutgers, Courtney made a name for himself at strong safety, starting in fifty-one straight games and gainging the repuation for being a "tackling machine." After the anxiety of waiting through the first six rounds of the draft and not hearing his name called, in the seventh round Courtney was selected by the Seattle Seahawks. "I know the Seahawks are a good young team," stated Green. "It was a dream come true. I feel good with the pick, and I'm ready to go out there and prove something." Courtney will leave this week for a minicamp in Seattle.
