Regular Grooming is Part of Responsible Pet Ownership

One important aspect of responsible pet ownership is regular grooming. Ongoing care of your dog's coat, skin, nails and ears are essential to your pet's health.

A regular grooming routine should include the following:

·A brush and comb at least weekly, more often for pets with long hair.

·Keep allergies under control with regular grooming appointments. Pets are four-legged dust mops that pick up anything floating around in the environment. Shampooing removes spores, dust, dirt and dander. Select a medicated pet shampoo or de-shedding treatment!

·Keep nails the proper length. If your pet has dark nails, you may want the grooming professionals do this for you to avoid damaging the 'quick."

·Check ears for problems. Regular cleaning, with a solution made for ear care is a good year-round preventative measure.

Pets are like kids!

When they run and play, touch nose-to-nose, especially in a group setting, they can become susceptible to illness. However, at The Barkley Pet Hotel & Day Spa, the benefits certainly outweigh the risks and vaccination policies are enforced to ensure those risks are minimized!

Whether you are a Boarding, Grooming or Day Camp client, The Barkley requires that each pet's vaccinations are current, especially Bordetella (Kennel Cough) which must be current within the last 6 months.

If you are planning on visiting The Barkley for an upcoming service, please make sure that your pet has the current vaccinations prior check-in. The Veterinarians of Westlake Village Animal Hospital are able to administer the vaccinations by appointment only.
