| Scaredy Cat - Halloween Safety Tips for Pets |
 |
Halloween is fun for the neighborhood kids, but it can
be a stressful time for your pets.
With so many doorbell rings and children yelling "trick
or treat!" many pets are likely to
get spooked. This is why it is important for you to pay
attention to your pet's comfort on
Halloween night. First, keep your pets indoors
(especially your black cats) to avoid any
tricks from kiddies wearing costumes. Next, allow them
to relax in a safe, quiet room
with comfortable bedding, toys and, of course, access
to food, water and a litter box (cats). Always be
safe and mindful where you hang your Halloween
decorations. Hang
the trimmings high and consider where you have
placed any electrical wires. Although eating pumpkin can be
healthy, try and keep this Halloween snack out of the reach of your
pets. After a few
days, pumpkins can develop bacteria that can cause
serious stomach issues. Additionally, ensure all candy
"goodies" are picked up or removed after trick or
treating.

| Don't Let Sisters Get Separated!!! |
 |
|
A local family is must move
overseas and
cannot take their two labs, Cookie (3 years) and Coco
(3 years)
with them. Not
only is this a devastating loss for the family, but
they are now
having trouble finding their babies a new home where
they can remain
together (lab rescue is not an option because the dogs
will most likely be separated). Both dogs grew up
together with 3
children, are in
great health, are spayed and have ID chips implanted
under their
skin. Ideally, the family hopes to find a local adopter
who will love Cookie and Coco as much as they do
and will keep in
touch with them. Please help us help them.

| Fall Means Coat Changes |
 |
|
Now that summer is gone, most pets will begin to shed
their summer coats before putting on their winter ones.
As this happens, special attention should be paid to
hair coats. Daily or weekly brushing should help
make your pet (and you) happier! This brushing will
keep their skin from
getting
irritated and will help prevent matting of the hair, which
is
also
very uncomfortable.
Fall is also a very common time of year for pets to be
affected
by allergens, such as molds from decaying plant
materials,
ragweed pollen, and even dust mites (which live in
mattresses,
upholstery, carpeting, dog bed and cloth toys). This
can make
them uncomfortable and have the need for more
frequent
bathing. f this is the case, ask us about our special
medicated
shampoos. They may be perfect for your pet.
