LCBH Volunteer Newsletter October 2009 in this issue :: Volunteers of the Month :: DLA Piper Training Webcast :: Volunteer Brown Bag Lunch Series   Greetings! Halloween has come and gone and winter is on the horizon.  With new cases coming in at a steady clip, the fall has been hectic here at LCBH.  But with the assistance of our amazing volunteers, both in the office and in the courtroom, we are keeping up with our hefty caseload.   From our successful Annual Awards Ceremony & Reception, graciously hosted by Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon LLP, to Pro Bono Week, October was full of events.  Add to that the day-to-day business of working with tenants, two training sessions (sponsored by Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, and DLA Piper) and it is plain that we had a lot to tackle this month.  As always, keeping up with all of this would not be possible without you, our volunteers.  Thanks again for your help this month, and we look forward to seeing more of you in the coming weeks. Volunteers of the Month LCBH's In-Office Superstars As mentioned previously, a number of new in-office volunteers recently joined LCBH.  After only a couple of weeks, they managed to settle into the routine of our office.  Their contribution is immeasurable and deserves recognition.    Yeny Estrada and Jeff Stevenson are both deferred associates from Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon.  Yeny helps out regularly in Eviction Court and has been providing much needed assistance to Staff Attorney Keri Lindsay in our Affordable Housing Preservation Project (AHPP).  Jeff is working with the staff attorneys in our Tenants in Foreclosure Intervention Project (TFIP) and will soon tackle security deposit and eviction matters.    Sarah Lash, Katy Fehl and Joe Miller are all recent graduates of the John Marshall Law School (JMLS).  Sarah and Katy have been working with our Attorney of the Day (AOD) Program, drafting pleadings, and providing courtroom support on various eviction matters.  Joe has been a great resource to Staff Attorney Aaron Rosenblatt, working on pleadings and case management for our ever-growing load of security deposit cases.    Shelly Miller came to us through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps and brings her experience in insurance defense litigation and as a drafting instructor at JMLS to our AOD program, assisting on pleadings and in the courtroom. We are fortunate to have each of these volunteers and wish to thank them for their fantastic contribution to LCBH!
