GrantProse Client Wins $15 Million
We are pleased to share with you that the U.S. Department of Education has selected our client, the North Carolina New Schools Project (NCNSP), from nearly 600 applicants as one of 23 "Investing in Innovation" finalists for 2011 - and as one of five selected for $15 million. The grant, titled Validating Early College High School Strategies, is the only North Carolina proposal selected in this highly competitive process.
However, our work is not done. To receive the $15 million in federal funding provided in the award, NCNSP must secure 10% in matching private funds - over the five-year period of the grant. We have been hard at work, helping NCNSP secure this match. Even with the help of Governor Purdue, who held a conference call with leading businesses and philanthropies across the State, this has been a lesson in being 'careful for what you wish.'
For more information, please see NCNSP's news release, found here:

Top 10 Resources for School Safety/Climate Research
By: Lori D. Brown, Ed.D
The US Departments of Justice and Education share a common goal of keeping youth safe during in-school and out-of school time hours. To that end, both agencies provide free resources and data files that grant writers working on projects related to any of the following topics may find useful: school or community climate, bullying/harassment or issues of individual safety, student engagement, school discipline, substance abuse, and violence prevention. Additionally, the American Institutes of Research (AIR), which is funded by a Dept. of Education grant, provides a "Safe and Supportive Schools" website and technical assistance center (http://safesupportiveschools.ed.gov/index.php?id=01) containing current research articles, links to measures of school climate, and tips/links for researching federal grants designed for youth programs. Dr. David Osher, the Principal Investigator at AIR and one of the nation's leading school climate experts, regularly provides free webinars related to school climate ("Events" tab). The list below contains links to current research, grant research sites, and websites that address issues of safety, violence prevention, and school and community climates.
