Dear Colleagues,

With budget cuts at the state and federal level, it is increasingly difficult to continuously improve educational outcomes for children, especially in the critical areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). For your consideration, we offer a discussion of software products that address the need to supplement classroom instruction with virtual educational modules. See our feature below, entitled "Experiencing Math and Science with ExploreLearning's Gizmos."

As you may know, the publication of this newsletter signifies that we have updated our Grant Alerts. In addition, we have also added several new sources to the Data Sources Guide found on our webpage for Tips and Guides. We hope that you successfully utilize these resources to enhance and expand your development efforts. Further, we hope that you share our newsletter, website, and resources with friends and colleagues whom it may also benefit.

We are providing all of this information because it is our mission to assist institutions, agencies and organizations expand fiscal resources and program operations, helping clients locate and secure grant funds matched to their interests and needs. Thank you for being a part of this mission with us, and for helping us disseminate information about our Grant Alerts, consultation services and training workshops.

We are encouraged by your active engagement with us through social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. We also hope you mark our website as a favorite on your computer, and return often to learn what's new in the grants world.

As always, thank you for your appreciation of our work!

Experience Math and Science with ExploreLearning's Gizmos

Educational software programs available today hold great promise and potential to increase K-12 students' understanding of STEM concepts, creative thinking, and problem solving. However, high quality programs typically cost money that schools and/or nonprofits may not be able to afford at this time - which necessitates consideration of including this cost in a grant proposal...

When developing a grant proposal to secure funds for acquiring educational software, how can it be argued that the software will be worth the investment?

Consider citing research that supports its effectiveness; which includes scholarly articles and previous evaluations of grant programs. While this tactic is always helpful, it is sometimes even required by funders.

For example, applicants to the Department of Education's Investment In Innovation (I3) grant program, which expired on August 2nd, had to provide research evidence that supported the notion that the proposed intervention would lead to improvements in the academic success of students.

When exploring options available to applicants, we discovered ExploreLearning's Gizmos. On their website, they cite literature that offers compelling evidence of its effectiveness. We have not utilized this software yet and are therefore not offering an official endorsement. However, ExploreLearning's Gizmos is a good candidate for teachers and administrators to consider implementing in their schools.
