Welcome to GrantProse, Dr. Deborah M. Thompson
Deborah Thompson is a new associate with GrantProse, Inc. She brings experience in research and scientific grant applications, including grants for small businesses, and expands our capabilities in that funding arena. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants are a good way for small research businesses to generate working capital. SBIR grants are offered through 11 federal agencies: the Departments of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Agriculture (USDA), Commerce (DOC), Defense (DOD), Education (DoED), Energy (DOE), Homeland Security (DHS), and Transportation (DOT); the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). STTR grants are offered through five federal agencies: DOD, DOE, DHHS, NASA and NSF.
Deborah's grantsmanship experience in the life sciences makes her an effective consultant for science-based grants to University and non-profit laboratories and to small businesses. She is a biotechnology professional with over 15 years of research and development experience, and has authored peer-reviewed publications in subjects ranging from plant and insect gene regulation to protein expression, biopesticides and bioremediation. Her Ph.D. in Genetics is from The University of Georgia at Athens. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Rutgers University.
Deborah is enthusiastic about encouraging people of all ages to understand science, and she has mentored researchers, taught science in elementary school, and organized and judged science fairs. She is passionate about explaining complex scientific concepts to non-scientists. See her blog at: http://biotechnologydigest.wordpress.com.
In her spare time, Deborah volunteers with companion animal rescue groups (Second Chance Pet Adoptions and Marley's Cat Tales) and with Operation Catnip, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to reducing feral and free-roaming unowned cat populations through sterilization. |
