Candelaria, Mission School
The public school in this isolated community closed in 1998. Today there are up to forty children, including kindergarten age who ride a bus 60 miles one way to attend school. There are dreams for a Lutheran School to be established here. Lay that dream before the Lord.

Invocation
Gracious Savior, you gave up everything to step into our lives and redeem us from being lost forever. Lead us to live a life of surrender that opens the way of redemption to all in need. Amen.
Reading Luke 15:1-10; Psalm 71:14-18
Reflection
Acts 9:32-43
Oh, I would have loved to have witnessed the healing of Aeneas. Bedridden for eight years, paralyzed for that time. I can hardly stand a rash for two days. But at the words of Peter and for the cause of Jesus, Aeneas was healed, got up and made his bed. "They (who saw him) turned to the Lord." As the body of Christ rejoices in all who come to faith, this healing is a win/win. A man is healed and people come to faith.
But how would you have responded if you were Tabitha? To be called back from death has to be remarkable. With no speculation other than the theology to which we ascend, it would seem to me to be an incredible sacrifice to return from the church triumphant to the church militant. (Talk about two different cultures.) Death catches up to each of us; but the victory, in the end, is Christ. Still, once is enough for most of us. Not so with Tabitha.
His hand re-created life from death. In Tabitha's resurrection I see the Father's hand. In Tabitha's resurrection, I see the Father's heart. His heart called to "many" who came to faith. And Tabitha would be the calling agent.
This high drama is not typically (to say the least) part of our experience. Yet look at the extent to which the Father will go to build His church. His love for souls is such that He will use illness, death, and even a resurrection to bring people into the kingdom.
And the Father will use you as well. We have been healed in many ways, to the glory of the Father. We have been raised from death to life by the power of His Word. "Tabitha, rise" is not unlike the command given to you at your baptism. Now, because you live, others will see the Father's hand. Now, because you live, you are the Father's heart. You are the Father's agent.

Pray (As you pray include . . . people who don't know Christ; people who will plant & witness; include people who pray. In addition, pray that the land be quenched with rain and that opportunities to bring God's love to individuals and communities impacted by the wildfires not be missed by God's servants.)
Benediction
Dear Advent King, use us to bring your new life to all who are without your eternal peace. Amen.

Pray that the members of the Texas District embrace the mission.
Lord, As fears grow concerning local, state, and world events, make Your presence known, through Your church and through Your people in such a way that Your hand of grace would be seen calming hearts and minds ultimately drawing all people to Yourself. Amen.
