Invocation
Gracious Savior, you gave up everything to step into our lives and redeem us from being lost forever. Lead us to live a life of surrender that opens the way of redemption to all in need. Amen.
Reading Luke 14:25-35; Psalm 71:14-18
Reflection
During a season of rampant materialism, Jesus calls us to renounce everything. If we really want to follow Him, everything must go.
So much for the calm baby born in the manger.
Jesus is a radical Savior, pursuing a radical mission with unmatched urgency. His message is clear: Walking with Him is no small pursuit. It is not for the half-hearted or faint of heart. Seeking and saving the lost is serious business. It is not for personal gain, but for total sacrifice.
Of course, we walk this journey by grace. Yes, the results are completely Spirit-produced. But this is a high calling. Friends, do you have the courage and commitment to bring the light of Jesus to the world? Will you venture out into the unknown, renouncing your preferences, comfort levels, preconceived notions, and hopes for material gain? Will you give up your own life so other lives might have a chance to sing the Alleluias of Advent and Christmas?
--Rev. Michael Newman, Area C Mission and Ministry Facilitator, Texas District, LCMS
Pray (As you pray include . . . people who don't know Christ; people who will plant & witness; include people who pray. In addition, pray that the land be quenched with rain and that opportunities to bring God's love to individuals and communities impacted by the wildfires not be missed by God's servants.)
Benediction
Dear Advent King, use us to bring your new life to all who are without your eternal peace. Amen.

|
Pray that the members of the Texas District embrace the mission.
Lord, As fears grow concerning local, state, and world events, make Your presence known, through Your church and through Your people in such a way that Your hand of grace would be seen calming hearts and minds ultimately drawing all people to Yourself. Amen.
