Invocation
Almighty, Lord, What grace and joy I have known in You. Grant to me the words to reveal Your grace and the actions that reflect the joy that comes from You alone for Your kingdom and to Your glory. Amen.
Reading Luke 13:31-35; Psalm 52 Reflection The evidence of Jesus being in full control of his life is shown in this interesting interchange between some Pharisees and him. Whether it was a game they were playing or fulfilling a command by Herod, the Pharisees who had been challenging Jesus at every opportunity for not being a strict adherent of the Law, were now appearing as his friend. They were warning Jesus to leave the city of Jerusalem because Herod wanted to kill him. Very noble behavior for men who had in the past plotted with others to have Jesus killed. Seeing through the sham and knowing who he was, where he was going and what was yet to happen to him, he replied by telling them to tell "that fox" he will continue to do what he has been doing, driving out demons and healing people and that he would succeed in reaching his goal. He would fill his father's will that he should die, in Jerusalem, for the sins of all people. He would not be daunted by an insincere ploy to drive him of task. In this day and age when there are many challenges to our faith and distractions that seductively call us to forgo our walk with the Lord, we can look back at Jesus and see that he was also tempted in this way. The temptation was real but the commitment and the promises of his Father compelled him to stay the course. When you feel like giving up and quitting the race, look into the face of your Savior. See that love, that hope, that compassion and that determination to die for you so that you may live in him. Then think, he did that for ME...how can I not follow him. By Rev. Dr. John Hirsch, Church Planter Candidate Assessor, Texas District, LCMS
Pray (As you pray include . . . people who don't know Christ; people who will plant & witness; include people who pray. In addition, pray that the land be quenched with rain and that opportunities to bring God's love to individuals and communities impacted by the wildfires not be missed by God's servants.)
Benediction
The Lord is near to you and will use you this day for His kingdom. Amen.

|
|
Pray that the members of the Texas District embrace the mission.
Lord, As fears grow concerning local, state, and world events, make Your presence known, through Your church and through Your people in such a way that Your hand of grace would be seen calming hearts and minds ultimately drawing all people to Yourself. Amen.
