Invocation
Almighty, Lord, grant to me the eyes to see and the ears to hear the Truth of Your Word. Give me the boldness to be Your voice to my neighbor. Amen.
Reading Luke 12:49-59; Psalm 95
Reflection
"Interpreting the Times"
We life in a society filled with analysis of the Stock Market, Economy, Weather, Political Campaigns and Life Styles. The list of opinion polls goes on forever! It does not take a mental giant to begin thinking, "My opinion is truth!" The past is not that important, "What could history possibly teach us?" What is important is how I feel about a topic. After all, "I am a smart person that wants to be happy!" "Don't I deserve to be happy and get what I want?"
Unfortunately, our society has created an environment where each person rules and each person's "interpretation of the times" must be accurate.
So what is the application for us, believers in Jesus Christ, and the writings we find in the Bible? The Luke 12 section presents some disturbing images of people who thought they were on the right track, but found themselves in trouble with others, because they were in trouble with God's plan of salvation and God's plan for their lives.
God does expect us to use our heads and hearts in making decisions and presenting opinions. The greatest challenge we face is making decisions and presenting opinions that have a basis in God's will and not our will. So many dilemmas we face in life go back to the age old problem of "God's will OR my will!"
Dear God, as I read this today, my faith is continually being challenged. I am tempted to put my faith in myself rather than in You. I am tempted to act like You when I think I know all the answers to life's challenges. My heavenly Father, humble me but do not break me. Encourage me without overwhelming me. Help me to see You by my side all day, in every circumstance when temptations arise to separate You and me. In your precious Son, Jesus Christ's name that I pray. Amen!
Michael Fuch, Texas Partners in Mission, Director of Development
Pray (As you pray include . . . people who don't know Christ; people who will plant & witness; include people who pray. In addition, pray that the land be quenched with rain and that opportunities to bring God's love to individuals and communities impacted by the wildfires not be missed by God's servants.)
Benediction
Go, knowing that He who calls, leads and that He who leads, provides. Amen.

Pray that the members of the Texas District embrace the mission.
Lord, As fears grow concerning local, state, and world events, make Your presence known, through Your church and through Your people in such a way that Your hand of grace would be seen calming hearts and minds ultimately drawing all people to Yourself. Amen.
