Invocation

Almighty, all-knowing, ever-present Lord, we fear when You say "Fear Not." We stumble and You provide firm footing.  You lead and yet we go astray.  Do not abandon us to ourselves but hold us close to Yourself that we may reflect Your grace and mercy in all we do and in all we say.  AMEN.

Reading   Luke 12:1-12Psalm 55

Reflection

"The very hairs on your head are numbered." One of my parishioners tells the story of this text being read in worship, and a veteran member of the congregation, bald as a cue-ball, leaned over to another mature member, similarly coiffed, and said: "Well, God doesn't have much trouble with that on our account." The parishioner broke down laughing and had trouble making it through the rest of the service.

Seriously, however, we who live so often in with a mindset of fearfulness, driven by media reports from anything to terrorists to cancer causing agents present in our homes to identity theft, and find anxiety levels raised to an almost unbearable level, need to hear this word of the Lord. We need not live in constant fear; we need not live in reactivity to the latest scary news; no, God is caring for us. So we need not spend our time and energy in worry, defensively concerned about all that is going on that can harm us, but rather can live freely, boldly, and fearlessly in our world. We have good news to proclaim. Not only about a Savior who redeems us, a Spirit who blesses us, but a Father who loves us, provides for us, and cares more for us that we can possibly imagine, such that even the very hairs of our head-no matter how many or how few-are numbered.

Pastor Randy Haedge

Lead Pastor, Bethel, Dallas, Texas

Pray  (As you pray include . . . people who don't know Christ; people who will plant & witness; include people who pray.   In addition, pray that the land be quenched with rain and that opportunities to bring God's love to individuals and communities impacted by the wildfires not be missed by God's servants.)

Benediction

Go, knowing that He who calls, leads and that He who leads, provides.  Amen.

Pray that the members of the Texas District embrace the mission.

Lord, As fears grow concerning local, state, and world events, make Your presence known, through Your church and through Your people in such a way that Your hand of grace would be seen calming hearts and minds ultimately drawing all people to Yourself.  Amen.
