Invocation
Father who creates, sustains, and calls, prepare my heart, prepare my mind, prepare my soul to serve you in all I say and do. I want to be about the one thing needed in Your kingdom to Your glory and for the sake of Your holy name. Amen.
Reading Luke 10:38-42; Psalm 1
Reflection
"Another major duty of a Synod that wants to be and remain an Evangelical Lutheran Synod is that it not seek its own glory, but only the glory of God, being intent not so much on its own growth, but rather on the growth of Christ's kingdom and the salvation of souls. You see, dear brethren, we are assembled here not for our own sake. We are in the faith, and by this faith we hope to be saved! But there are still many millions [I would update this to billions] who have no faith! This is why we are here-so that we might bring salvation to as many people as we possibly can, so that the sad situation in Christendom and the corruption of the poor, blind heathen might be remedied. Only for this reason does our gracious God allow Christians to live on earth, that they might bring others to the saving faith. Otherwise God would immediately take a Christian to heaven as soon as he is converted."
C.F.W. Walther, "Essays for the Church" (St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1992)
While the verbiage may be a little archaic and the perspective (numbers) somewhat short of reality, never-the-less this is our ecclesiastical DNA. We are here for one purpose, namely, "bring salvation to as many people as we possible can."
Rev. Steven Misch
Texas District, Area A MMF
Pray (As you pray include . . . people who don't know Christ; people who will plant & witness; include people who pray. In addition, pray that the land be quenched with rain and that opportunities to bring God's love to individuals and communities impacted by the wildfires not be missed by God's servants.)
Benediction
Go now, in confidence, knowing that He who leads you also sustains you in faith. Amen.

Lord, As fears grow concerning local, state, and world events, make Your presence known, through Your church and through Your people in such a way that Your hand of grace would be seen calming hearts and minds ultimately drawing all people to Yourself. Amen.
